Stupid cooking ? - homemade butter

does it always taste like fresh whipping cream?  I never buy sweet cream butter, only buy the salted kind so I have no idea what unsalted tastes like.  I made butter the other day with whipping cream (I could not find regular heavy cream anywhere) and the final product tastes like whipped cream whether solid or melted.  I guess that makes sense but not what I am used to.  Next time I think I will make salted butter.
