HLG

How often do you weigh yourself? Honestly?

I understand I'm a psycho but I weigh myself every night and every morning. DH threatens to hide the scale. I'm motivated by numbers and I like to keep myself in major check. I'm having a rough day because I apparently gained 2 lbs in 1 day. I have convinced myself it's a fluke seeing as how I've worked out every day this week and didn't consume a huge amount of salt yesterday.

Re: HLG

  • Before-only at the doctor.  Now that I've changed some things, once a week, every Monday morning.  I hate the scale and try to go by how I feel and how my clothes fit rather than my weight.  I do have a goal weight in mind though so that's why I step on the dreaded scale.

  • once a week... usually on Monday mornings.

You should really only weigh yourself once a week to track weight loss. Your weight can flex from up to +/- 5lbs in a day. Depending on what is in your stomach (ie, if you have or haven't gone #2!), how full your bladder is, the amount of fluid your body is holding on to etc.

Weigh yourself once a week at the same time of day. I like to do it in the morning... usually after I've had a small cup of coffee and gone to the bathroom! ;)

  • Yeah- DH and I do the "official" weigh ins only on Monday mornings but I like to kinda check in. I'm not a big fan of surprises, haha.

  • I'll typically weigh myself at home the morning of my WW meeting, then at my meeting a little while later. I've found though, that I am pretty sure of which direction the scale is headed based on how I felt during the week. I am sure that I have gained this week. I had a huge dinner on Tuesday night, I hardly exercised, and I have not done a very good job of tracking my food. Am I happy with myself? Not really. But I'm learning to just roll with it and push myself to make some changes for next week.
  • When I'm trying to lose weight I weigh myself every morning.  I understand how weight fluctuates but I still am encouraged (or motivated!) by small changes.  When I'm not actively trying to lose weight I weigh myself every few weeks...or never. :)

    Ditto this exactly!
  • I weigh myself every other day usually. But I have a nutritionist and he weighs me every Wednesday and Saturday. I'm not supposed to weigh myself between those days but I'm a little obsessed.

  • We recently got a scale that Said it works best on wood floors so we have it in our dining room. I weigh myself all the time now. However, I only use one weight measurement once a week (usually Monday at the gym) to track for Weight Watchers. It's crazy how much weight fluctuates in a day.
