How do you keep busy at home?

Violet and I are supposed to stay in until after RSV season when she stops getting Synagis for the year.  What do you guys do while you're stuck inside all winter?  It's not such a big deal right now, but as she gets older I had been looking forward to mommy and me groups and playdates which are obviously out of the question.

Any ideas?  I feel like I'm going stir-crazy already.  It's cold enough that we can't go for walks either.  In the long run, it's not such a huge deal and worth it to keep her healthy of course.

Re: How do you keep busy at home?

  • During my "down time" I've been catching up on my knitting and baking and cooking new recipes, doing WiiFit, and doing lots of other crafting.  At night when DS has gone to bed DH and I have taken up watching 30 Rock from start to finish.

In regards to DS and I we spend a lot of the day doing his OT exercises, we read stories, walk/dance around the house, skype with grandma (my mum), he sits in his high chair while I am in the kitchen doing things and talks to his toys.

  • We did a lot of playing, reading, etc. But lately (and mostly because its not that cold where I live) weve been going out a bit more - weve been on lockdown since she came home last July - RSV season is just a few more months and then thats it for us. No shots next year and she starts Daycare in a few weeks so I dont see any reason to be shut in's any longer.  YOu will see the next months will fly by and the threat of RSV will go down and you guys will be out and about in no-time. Just use this time to get to know eachother -

  • We spend a lot of time outdoors. Luckily being in NorCal means the weather is often ok. I bundle him up and go for walks in the middle of the day when there's no one really around and kids are in school. He's usually in a carrier on me which keeps passerby's from touching him. We have met other moms with young healthy babies for walking dates or to sit outside at a sidewalk cafe or coffee shop. I have the other mom order for me and purell like a crazy person. So far so good and it kept me sane during my maternity leave.

  • Thanks for the advice ladies.  I guess the real issue is I just feel like LO is getting short changed.  I know she's not-- she gets to spend her awake time home with me which is awesome.  My friends LO's all get to go to story time at the library and baby groups and stuff.  None of that is necessary or even a big deal.  It's just things I had wanted to do with her that I can't and it makes me sad.  It's really silly, I know.  There are so many more important things to worry about.
