I typically don't love occupational names, but I really like this one.
I enjoy the Girls Gone Child blog, and, although I could never pull off Rebecca Wolfe's other childrens' names, I feel like she bumped the name Archer into the hip-but-still-accessible category for me.
I also think it would be an interesting way to honor family. My grandparents would be thrilled if we named our son Archibald, which is a family ancestral name. There is no way this will ever happen, but I thought Archer could be a cool way to honor the name in a more modern way. Even though there does not appear to be any historical connection between the two names, the nn Arch (I really dislike Archie) would be the same with both.
One of my hang-ups is that I don't really love the meaning of the name (which is obvious). It's a bit similar to Gunnar to me, albeit slightly more romantic.
We are having a tough time with boy names! What do you think of Archer?

My grandfather, who passed away recently, was Archer...I don't think it's all that "modern"...and he always went by Archie.
(actually though, Archer was his middle name - he shared a first name with his father so he went by his MN)

This!
I like it.
Different but not out there and it honors your family. Good choice.

Thanks ladies. That's some relatively positive feedback. I've never seen the show Archer and don't even know what it's about, but maybe I'll keep it that way just in case
Guess I'll keep Archer on my list!
I really like Archer as a name
