Baby Names

Alastair and Callum

If we have another boy in the future I've thought about possibly using Callum.  I already have an Alastair.  We have never used any nicknames with Alastair, but I have no idea if we will in the future.  We'd probably call Callum Cal a lot.

Would Callum be out because we could end up with an Al and a Cal?

Re: Alastair and Callum

  • I've thought about this with Wesley and Jesse. Wes and Jess = no.

But if you really never call your son Al, and you don't think you ever will, then sure.

  • I love Callum!

I think it's fine if you don't call Alastair Al. If you start doing it, then Cal is probably a bad idea.

  • I think Callum and Alastair are already kind of rhymey/sing songy without the NN's Al and Cal.  I absolutely love both of those names though, and if you are set on them, go for it.  There are worse name issues.
  • I don't really love how Callum sounds... prefer Calvin.

    I'll love you forever,
    I'll like you for always,

  • I feel like if you don't call him Al yet, you probably won't. I like Callum and I disagree with pps that Alastair and Callum are sing songy - I actually really don't get that, it isn't at all to me.

I say go for it - lovely set!

    Good luck.

  • Love Alastair!  But the Al/Cal sibset would turn me off from using Callum, even if you're not currently using "Al"
