Cloth Diapering

Not your typical detergent Q

I have a bunch of hand-me-down clothing and I don't know if it's the detergent or fabric softener or what, but they smell very strongly (not bad, but I'm sensitive to scents).  I've tried washing with our detergent, then with vinegar, then with no detergent, then with bleach, again with no detergent, and they still smell.  Any thoughts/advice?

I have no idea what was used, but I'm about ready to just pass them along to someone else.

  • I'd try first putting them in in a bucket dry and spreading baking soda all over them for a couple days (to absorb some of the smell).  And then letting them soak in the wash for a few hours with all that baking soda.  And then washing and rinsing with vinegar.  I have a big thing for baking soda and vinegar I think.  It smells a little bit vinegary when you take it out of the wash, but doesn't at all after drying.

    Thanks - I'll give it a try!
