HI- I am new to this board- Not sure if this is appropriate for this board- but I figured your experiences may help shed some light. My pregnancy is being monitored closely because i have had recurrent miscarriages- I had my first ultrasound last week- and the nurse thought she saw two sacs... but wasnt positive on the second... At that time- she didnt do exact measurements but said I looked early 5 weeks ( but no yolk sacs yet)... so I went back for a second ultrasound yesterday ( a week after the first)- and a different nurse did my ultrasound- this time she saw 3 sacs... but she said 1 sac "probably looked kind of empty ( really??? great medical terms!)" and the other 2 sacs looked like there was "probably" a yolk sac in each gestational sac... She DID do measurements this time- and measured all teh sacs at 5 weeks and 1 day... she did say that the gestational sacs increased in size- from 5mm to 11 mm.... but I am very confused- first of all- why wasnt this third sac seen before... second- if I looked early 5 weeks last week- why am I only 5 weeks 1 day this week??? Shouldnt I be 6 weeks???? The nurse wasnt concerned and said that we wont know anything until next week ( because then there should be heartbeat(s) ) regarding the viability- but that sometimes multiples develop slower. REally??? Seems like a baby is a baby and all babies should develop along the same rate, right???? I am confused and worried that maybe none are viable??? Is this common with multiples??? Should I consult another Dr????
Any and all advice would be welcome! I just dont want to get my hopes up and then have another miscarriage and lose however many babies are in there- so the sooner I figure out whats up the better....I have to wait a whole week for my next ultrasound and I may go crazy before then....
Re: Confused
I think in another week or two (might as well be an eternity) things will be a lot clearer. I've seen (on message boards, I mean) ultrasounds go many ways when they start like this. Triplets, twins, a singleton. You just never know. At this stage, every day counts, and everything is so tiny...you just never know.
I wish you the very, very best with your pregnancy!

Ditto the above. Even though I did fertility my doc wouldn't do an U/S until after 6 weeks because that's when things start to become clearer and heartbeats can start showing. I've heard that a lot more people might have "vanishing twin" (where you start with two fertilized eggs but only one makes it) than realize it simply because most people don't get ultrasounds as early as you did.
I hope for a healthy pregnancy for you, and that the next couple weeks go quickly so you can see how your little bean(s) doing.
