DH and I are trying to settle on name for baby boy. He is really insistent we name baby after family names. DH and his (late) father are Thomas. My dad is John. I don't want to use these name because we have TONS of Toms and Johns on both sides of family and would really like baby to have his own name. So DH came up with:
Thomas John, but we would call him Trey (since he would be third Thomas) OR
Jackson Thomas (as Jack is a form of John)
I'm not sure I am sold on either of these, would love to get opinions or other suggestions. TIA
Re: Struggling to agree on baby name
I am really trying to get behind the names, especially since his dad died when he was 16 and it would mean a lot to DH. I think part of my problem is that my sister's dog is named Trey, so its weird to call baby that.
I was going to suggest John Thomas (bc I've always loved that combination) before I finished reading your post, but then I thought of the Trey McDougal John Thomas-as-penis SATC reference and thought better of it.
I do like Jackson Thomas. Jackson is definitely becoming quite popular but with the family tie in and the Jackson Thomas combo I think it stands on its own. Would your dad feel slighted about trading John for Jackson? That always gets me on the family name thing, someone's always left out.
Trey also reminds of the older boys in my school circa early-mid 90s who had bleached out bowl cuts and wore chains as man-boy jewelry before it went emo. Checkerboard Vans and that whole mess...
Too funny. Now I will never be able to use that option....
I really like Jackson Thomas. I know some people are avoiding Jackson because it's becoming so popular, but I just think it's a great "manly" name that would suit a boy well throughout every stage of life.
And I totally understand the dog name issue - Shelby was on our short list for a girl...until my brother got a dog and named her Shelby. Now it's definitely off the list!
Good luck on finding the perfect name!
LOVE Jackson Thomas (:
