Cloth Diapering

CD Tips

Hi Ladies!

Can you give us your CD tips, tricks, recommendations and/or insights?  I thought it could be a fun thread to hear anything CD related (stuff you wished you learned early on, stuff you rave about, tips you give new CDers, etc.).

GO!

Re: CD Tips

  • cloth wipes! They are so easy and such a good money saver since you will still be doing diaper laundry anyway. I keep disposable wipes on hand for messes and on the go changes sometimes but use cloth wipes 95% of the time. I just use baby wash cloths and a peri bottle to wet them.

Do a trial if you are up for it. I got a bunch of prefolds/covers that we never use because I totally preferred pockets. I'm pretty sure it is Jillians drawers that has a good one.

Liners, to give a stay dry feeling with cotton/prefolds you can make your own liners for super cheap. Just buy fleece from the craft store and cut. Wah-Lah.

I was one who though I could go without a diaper sprayer...yeah....then we started solids. Budget one of those in. lol

  • Less is not always more when it comes to detergent. If your diapers still smell, they aren't clean and you need more detergent. Detergent isn't the enemy as long as you rinse it out completely.

Warm rinses are better than cold.

Cloth wipes are easier with cloth diapers. Where are you going to put that poopy disposable wipe?

ETA: AI2s may seem like an easier option on the go, but it is much easier to change a full diaper than to mess with trying to change out a dirty insert while handling a squirmy infant/toddler.
