For the 1 hour or the 3 hour? I have not taken the 3 hour yet but i failed the 1 hour. They did not have me fast before hand. I took the test at 9:30,so they said i should have some cereal or something for breakfast. I did not have anything sugary (crispix!!) but it is possible that the carbs acted as sugars maybe. They think me failing could maybe have been because of the non-fasting. Passing for failing the 1 hour could easily be effected by what you eat.
I don;t think you can fail the 3 hour for sweets because you fast from the night before. So, its really just one of those things.the 3 hour is much more accurate. They get a fasting level, then give you the glucose, and take your blood every hour for 3 hours. 2 high scores means GD. So, i think if its meant to be,its meant to be
a piece of gum or a mint can cause you to fail the one hour. the 3 hour is a bit less sensitive b/c of the longer time frame. most who fail the 1 hour pass the three hour. I failed the 1 hour during my 1st preg and passed the 3...this time i passed the 1 hr.

GD occurs due to hormone changes from the placenta. It blocks the action of the mothers insulin in the body. GD starts when you are unable to make and use all the insulin it needs for pregnancy. Without enough insulin, glucose cannot leave the blood and be changed to energy. Glucose builds up in the blood to high levels.
I have always been a healthy eater, exercised and have not gained over the recommended amount of weight...and I have GD. My dad has type 2 diabetes, my dr says my fam. history puts me at greater risk.
There are a lot of factors that contribute to why you *could* fail, but it's just how your body processes sugar. If you don't eat tons of sugars/carbs then you will probably not do well on the 1 HR. I have a strict diet and it's pretty low carb so I'm not surprised I failed. There is no history of diabetes in my family so I'm not overly concerned.
I'm more annoyed that they make you drink 100 grams of glucose in the 3 HR test. It's so much for a tiny little baby to process.

Re: those that failed glucose test...
I passed and eat tons of sweets. What do you mean by "or can it just be one of those things?"
Not passing means that your body isn't metabolizing/breaking down the sugars from the foods you're eating.
