TTC after 35

Devastated... failed CCT badly

I just got the call that my day 10 FSH is 20.2. Day 3 was 11. I meet with the RE on Friday, but the nurse suggested that he was going to recommend mini-IVF for me.

Is this reasonable? My AMH is .98 and AFC is always hovering around 12.

I am so upset my fingers are literally shaking as I try to type this.

  • I can't offer advice about numbers, but I wanted to let you know that I am sorry you have hit a rough patch.  I know some of the other ladies will weigh in with the knowledgeable responses.

  • I don't know much about the Clomid challenge but your day 3 FSH, AMH, and AFC don't seem off enough to prevent you from trying regular IVF (based on other ladies' stats I've seen on these boards).  Try not to get too upset before you hear from the doc -- the nurse could have it wrong.  And if the doc is only willing to do mini-IVF with you, you can seriously consider getting a second opinion.

Sorry you have to deal with this.  My numbers are pretty similar to yours (lower FSH, but also lower AMH, similar AFC) so I'm really interested in hearing how this turns out for you.  Hugs.

First, your AFC is great and that is a better indication of how you will respond to meds.  Do you know the dose for mini IVF?  I've done high stims and my current RE has convinced me that high stims aren't good for high FSH and getting good quality eggs.  Low stims can get you a decent amount of eggs and better quality. If I do anymore IVF's it will be low stim/mini IVF.    You could respond well to high stims though since your AFC is good.

Remember that your actual response is more important that the number you tested at.

  • Mini-IVF is usually much cheaper than regular IVF.  It is to my understanding that it's usually in the $3-4K range instead of the $10-12k range.  Quality is much more important than quantity.  Wouldn't worry too much about CCT, as it is not recommended for women over 35 anyways.
TTC since 10/09 Me-43 DH-44 RE and testing 10/10-11/10, Recommending IVF 1/11 New RE AMA and DOR-DH low motility IVF #1.1 cancelled 3/11 due to poor response IVF #1.2 May 2011, one perfect 8-cell embryo, 3dt-BFN, IVF #2.1 Converted to IUI d/t poor response. • Your AFC is great, and your CD3 numbers not that bad, so I would think you might be a good candidate for regular IVF, too.I guess I would question how the mini-IVF would give you better chances than the medicated IUIs you've done (Barring any male factor issues).

I'm sorry the CCT didn't go well. It's always hard to hear bad news on the IF front.

ETA; Didn't pay attention to you history - Sorry.

  • Thank you all so much for talking me off the ledge! I am going to try to table my freak out until we meet with our RE tomorrow morning. The more I think about it, the more it seems to me like the nurse did not have all of my information in front of her. I just have to survive today somehow.

  • I don't have any advice as I am not doing IVF (probably should be, but that is my DH's line in the sand). Just wanted to extend a hug.

  • I hate this test. I failed it too and was miserable for at least 2 days. My overachiever self hated failing this test. Also it freaked me out, so I know where you are at.

    What helped me:

    - My acupuncturist was curious why they did that test on me because most women in their 30's don't respond to clomid well anyway.

    -  A lot of RE's don't even use or believe in the CCT anymore - it's pretty antiquated.

Your #'s really aren't that bad and mini-IVF is actually a positive option. But really you won't know how you respond to stims until you try. Even though I failed the CCT, I respond quickly (almost too quickly) to stims during IUI so it may or may not end up being an issue for you as well.

Just hang in there and do nice things for yourself today - remember these are just #'s that your RE will use to figure out the best course of action.
