Trying to Get Pregnant

Exercise While TTC

I actually have 2 questions:

Are there any guidelines on excersing while TTC?  I work out 5 days a week and some days are pretty hard workouts (running, spinning class, atheltic conditioning).  I workout to maintain my weight; I'm not losing wieght.  I know there are guidlines to working out while pregant but wasn't sure if anyone had heard of any while TTC?  We've only been trying for 5 months now and we seem to be doing everything right, just don't want to be doing something that's hurting our chances.

2nd question- according to my FF chart, I am 11 DPO.  I started spotting 8 DPO and still no AF.  I have very regular cycles and normally AF doesn't show up until 14 DPO.  I've heard that some women can have a hard time getting pregant if their AF comes too early; even if the egg is fertelized, it hasn't had time to implant itself before AF comes and "washes it away".  Has anyone ever heard of this?  I've tried looking it up. I was just curious because some cycles I seem to spot very early on and was wondering if this could be what's happening to me.

Me-31/DH-32, TTC since Aug 2011, HSG/Blood work all normal 3 SAs - results all over the place. DX Unexplained
3 failed IUIs, IVF #1: 12R/6M/6F, transferred 1 5d blast, no frosties, bfn.   IVF #2:  12R/6M/5F, transferred 1 5dt, 2 frosties, bfn.    Yale EFT test done, mild inflamation - maybe endometrisis?   FET #1: transferred 2 6d blasts, BFP!!!  Beta #1: 606 e2:303, P: 47   Beta #2: 1,817    Beta #3: 8,625

Re: Exercise While TTC

  • Your workout routine sounds fine.  I was working out 7 days a week, training for an Ironman when I conceived DS.

Yes, there is an issue when your LP isn't long enough and it doesn't give the egg enough time to implant before AF begins.  Doesn't seem like you have that problem though since you usually get AF at 14DPO.  If you spotted at 8DPOs, it could have just been normal midcycle spotting.

ETA: The condition you are referring to is typically called a Luteal Phase Defect.  Usually means short luteal phase, spotting throughout luteal phase, etc.  It is usually caused by lower than normal amounts of progesterone during the luteal phase.

  • My RE told me to stop hot yoga, but I know that every doctor has a differing opinion.  My understanding is that if you've done it for a long time, continue doing it.

As far as your LP is concerned, if it is too short (10 days or less) it is considered to be a luteal phase defect, which can be a problem.  I don't know if spotting figures into that (I don't think it does), but 13-14 day LP is within normal range.  GL!

I am really glad that I happened to read this post - I did not know anything about a LP defect.  I typically have a 28-29 day cycle, but I do not ovulate until CD 17 or 18 or so which puts my LP at 10-11 days.  Could this be a problem for me?  Should I bring this up to my doctor?

I believe that 10 days is borderline.  If you haven't been trying for very long or charting for very long, then I believe they say to give it more time.

10 is fine. Less than 10 is an issue.

    Thanks ladies!
