spring break ideas?

so the past two years we've vacationed with another family for spring break, traveling to hilton head and orlando.  this year they are expecting baby # 2 in march and won't be able to travel with us.  also since i'm currently staying home, what we'd like to spend on a vacation is not quite as much as in the past.

that being said, we'd still really like to get away - preferably somewhere far enough for a chance at some warm weather.  i keep thinking tennessee may be a good distance to travel with the girls but have no idea where to go or what to do there?  we've been to gatlinburg and the smokey mountains before but we mainly went on hiking, which doesn't sound appealing now with two LO's.

i guess i'm asking if anyone has any ideas?  or great places they've been that would be family friendly (for young children).  any ideas are appreciated! :)  thanks! :)

Re: spring break ideas?

  • I'm not sure Tennessee is far enough away that they'll have good weather for Spring Break.  :(  It won't be warm, but have you checked out Great Wolf Lodge in Cincinnati?  Our neighbors just went there with their 4 boys (ages 9-2) and they loved it.  I think most of the stuff is indoors, so you won't have to brave any cold weather except upon arrival.  ;)

ETA:  I have no idea what GWL costs, so if the price is ridiculous, I apologize.  I was just throwing it out as a family-friendly place that's reasonably close.

  • Are you limiting your choices to areas with a reasonable drive, or are you also considering paying a little more to fly? We love South Padre Island, TX for spring break...of course you'll want to either book something for the week right before the college kids invade the place or a week after ( this will likely get you great prices at a nice hotel) The area is very family friendly all year round and cost of living in this area is relatively low....so you'll be sure to find things to do that are not very expensive (including restaurants, shopping, water activities, etc). I would love to go there in April....but we'll see how LO #2 does, he/she will only be a little over 2 months, so it may be a little too early for us to travel :(

    Have fun planning your vacation!
