Baby Names

Ella and Elsa?

I love the name Elsa, but our good friends just had an Ella. We do a lot with these friends - would that be weird? We're getting ready to TTC again, so with any luck, these girls would be about a year apart and grow up together. I'm not set on the name by any means; it's just one I keep coming back to.

  • If you're good friends and the kids will be together a lot I'd go a different direction. Especially if you're not set on it. They're too similar to not be weird.

  • Having similar names is not a bad thing. IF you even have a girl next. The girls would likely think it's cool to have similar names and can be creative in play with it - 'the Ella and Elsa show' or 'Club El'. If Ella was a sibling, I'd say it's too similar. Nothing wrong with friends having similar names.

I agree. Hate it for you though. FWIW, Elsa is a million times prettier than Ella. Too bad the better name didn't get to be used!

  • I don't think it's a big deal.

Or you could go with Ilsa instead? That's my SIL's name and I really like it.

  • I don't believe in name stealing and these two names are different enough that they wouldn't be confused when called. Don't back off from a name you love because of this.
