My obgyn suggested that I suggested that I started weekly injections of 17 hydroxyprogesterone for my 2nd pregnancy since my son came early at 31 weeks. Has anyone heard about these injections or use them for their next pregnancy after their preemie? Did you find that your insurance covered the injections?
The obgyn told me that that I should have started them at 16 weeks. But I was actually further along in this pregnancy than I thought I was, and now I am at 20 weeks.
I am trying to make good decisions for this pregnancy. My quad screen came back-1 in 3800 for DS, 1 in 6800 for Neuro--somthing, and 1 in 100 for another test--but they said that was a normal result.
I am a little worried that the injections will be expensive.

Re: 17 Hydroxyprogesterone injections for 2nd pregnancy
I'm not pregnant again yet, but I'll be getting the shots next time. If you're worried about the cost, I think there are multiple different versions of the shots. You can get the compounded ones from a compounding pharmacy or the name brand ones that are more expensive. I don't know any of the specifics, though. I'd ask your OB about it.
From what I've read, progesterone shots are supposed to help prevent preterm labor in moms that are at risk for it. Personally, I'd definitely get the shots.
DS was a 34 weeker. I had the shots with my second (born FT at 39 weeks).
If your insurance won't cover them, you can get the compounded version of the shots at Kelley-Ross downtown on Olive Way (around 6th or 8th) for I think $110 for 4 weeks worth - includes syringes and needles. That's where my OB sent me (right when Makenna was just starting to come out). My insurance covered the shots, but overall it would have been reasonable OOP and a lot nicer than the 4 week NICU stay was with DS.
I am on the progesteron 1cc injection twice daily starting yesterday. I am about 8 weeks along. I was on the suppository for about 2 weeks and mu levels rose but then last week they dropped and I've since been on the twice daily injection. If this helps me maintain this pg then I will do whatever my doctor tells me to do. I have my second u.s in three days and more blood work in one day.
As far as insurance goes I only paid $5. That includes the two sets of needles. The ones to draw the med up and the one to inject it. I have two gf's who are nurses that are alternating am/pm doses. Will I have to take this the entire time? Has anyone had to take the injections this much? Thanks!
