For us, "no" with the head shake also meant yes, you just had to determine if the corresponding facial expression looked happy or sad. DD#2, at 20 months can now distinguish from things she does and doesn't want and can do "no" but doesn't really say "yes" yet, she just stopped saying no for yes. Hopefully your "no" only means "no", saves a lot of things from being lost in translation....
Hahaha! We are also deep into the "No!" stage. (Does this stage ever end after it starts?) I have to admit I like "No" better than whining, screaming, or throwing things he doesn't want, but sometimes he does them all in combination.
Re: It was good while it lasted...
everything is "no" for us right now... everything. For example Sunday morning the family is eating breakfast,
DH to DS: Do you think momma is pretty?
DS: no!
DH to DS: Do you think daddy is handsome?
DS: no!
DH to DS: Oh well buddy, guess you got the short end of this deal!
LOL! When he was still head shaking "no" we had this converstation:
Me: Do you love mommy?
Sprout: (thinks about it) :::vigorously shakes head no:::
Me: Do you love daddy?
Sprout: (thinks about it) :::vigorously shakes head no:::
Me: Do you love cheese?
Sprout: CHEESE? Cheese! Cheese! Cheese!!!!!!!!!!!! CHEESE!!!!!!!!!
we thought we had made it through the no stage, but then a few months ago, he started confusing yes with no, which is even more frustrating!
me: Do you want yogurt? yes or no?
DS: oogurt.
me: yes or no? (b/c we're also just into identifying everything we see and know the name for)
DS: yesh.
me: ok (goes to get yogurt, opens it, takes the spoonful to give to him and ...)
DS - oooogurt! ooogurt!!! (while pushing it away) want it! want it! (all while pushing it away and shaking head yes.............)
