DH and I (mainly me) have been worried about Belle's speech. She is talking but for the most part its all babble. More than half the time we can't understand anything she is saying. Most words she cuts off the first part of the word completely. We brought it up to our pedi at her 2 year appointment in October and she basically said to wait until her 2 1/2 year appointment which is in April.
At this point I don't think it is getting much better. DH wanted to wait until after our appointment in April but he finally agreed over the weekend to call. Well as long as I do all the work he is on board.
I was on the website, but not positive where I go from here. Do we need a doctor recomendation? Do I just call the number listed for Erie County? I really am not positive. I know a few of you have had speech thearpy, any tips? TIA
Re: Talk to me about EI
M's pedi made the call for us so i'm not sure how to get the ball rolling on your own, but i think some other ladies on here had to make the call themselves.
i will say they will ask you a million quesions and it helps to gather some info beforehand - i was like a deer in the headlights when we had his initial appts and i wish i had been better prepared
off the top pf my head- questions like:
how many words does she have now, how many wods does she string together, how many words or % of words can you understand/can others understand (big difference here b/c you might know what she is saying but outsiders might not)
Call the # for Erie county. You will talk to someone who will ask 1 million questions. Then about 1 week later someone else will call with another round of questions and then set up an evaluation which will be within 30 days. Then 4 or 5 people come to your house and will evaluate her. The decision will be made right then and there is she needs services. When they evaluated Ethan they were very timid about telling me he needed it I was thrilled we were going to get help. I wanted Ethan to need it. I think our first appt was within 1 week of the evaluation.
I have been very happy with our therapist. We love her. I heard the same thing from Ethan's pedi about waiting but I couldn't do it any longer. DH and I agreed to call at the end of June but I made the call at the end of May.
Good Luck! There are a bunch of us on here with speech therapy services.

Yeah, I would definitely call this week. At the very least to put your concerns to rest if nothing else.
Brianna is sort of like this too. She has words but has a difficult time putting them together. It has slowly evolved into distinct, carefully chosen words to get her idea across. I had her evaluated last Nov, but she didn't qualify for EI based on EI standards, but the evaluator thought she may qualify at preschool level because their standards are different. Then her preschool had a therapist come in and evaluate each of the kids, she also found B didn't need intervention at this time but should be re-evaluated at the preschool level should she not progress more in the next few months.
