Worried

DH is really starting to make me worry about Callie! He's been worried for probably a month now about her having torticollis (sp?). Probably 95% her head is tipped or turned to the right almost never will she turn it to the left. She will sometimes turn is straight ahead and while she's sleeping I have noticed she will turn it to her left. Then he's been telling me that he's nervous because she doesn't really respond all the time to sounds and seems nonresponsive to things. She will jump from a noise startling her but doesn't really turn to look for it or follow it. She also doesn't really seem to track objects yet. She will smile at us and coo when we talk. I'm trying to remember what T did at this age and can't really remember those types of things with her prior to 3 months. Are these valid concerns? Or are we just being paranoid?

Re: Worried

  • I feel guilty like I may have started a torticollis paranoia hysteria here, lol.

We had the same concern, we thought B had hearing difficulties but it was just that it was reeeeally hard for him to turn that way. Ask your ped or have C evaluated by EIS.

Not at all. You educated us!! Really before you told us about B I had never heard of it. At first when DH told me his concerns I thought it was exactly what you said just him being paranoid about something new her had learned about but the more I study her the more I'm worried now too! Should I bring in any photos to how the Dr to help him realize why we are concerned in case it's not real evident at her checkup this week?

  • Before B I had never heard of it either. Our ped dismissed it as a flat spot at his 1 month checkup but by 2 months all she had to do was look at him and he started PT the next day. I would take a few pics if I were you. If she ends up needing a helmet or PT one day (fingers crossed no) the helmet company required pics to submit for insurance anyways. The earlier you catch it the better, so good job mama!

  • Go with your gut, and if the pedi dismisses it, have her evaluated through EI. It's a free service, and you don't need the doctor's permission to refer her. Good luck!
