Pre-School and Daycare

Learning Experience School

Hi,

First time posting on this board. I hoping someone might be able to help me. Has anyone sent their child to a Learning Experience facility?

My son is 3 and currently enrolled in a small preschool near our home, but I'm not sure how much he is really getting out of the school. They just tell me that he isn't a good listener and doesn't want to do his work - but they fail to tell me what I can do to help him be better.

Any help or experience would really help.  Thank you!

Re: Learning Experience School

  • i'm not sure what type of "work" he doesn't want to do... but in preschool a 3yo child shouldn't have "work"... he should have all play.

Learning experience is a daycare chain near me... is that what you are talking about?

as far as chain schools/daycares - they can vary greatly by site. I used to sub for a chain and some ewre disgusting some were wonderful - so you'd need to ask on your local board to get info about the one near you.

any school you bring him to- make sure they have a play based environment... hands on learning - not "work"... that's not how young children learn (i'm early childhood certified - not just a mom saying this :))

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • Thank you so much for your input. I put my son in his current preschool because it's where my SIL sent both her daughters. I never really did any research and so I never really knew where to start.

They sit and do coloring (he HATES to color) and the trace letters to learn to write. I watched him (through the window) there this morning and he did the front of one page but the teacher flipped the page over and he just wasn't interested in finishing it. She kept trying to force him to do it and finally she gave up. When I picked him up today she said that he didn't do anything today and I said "Really? I watched him do work this morning - what happened to that?" She said, "oh, well he didn't want to finish." I said "Well, i was watching and I could tell that he was just not interested in it anymore."

Today he got in trouble because he hit one of his classmates. Of course, no one can tell me the root of the issue with why he hit her, because they didn't see it happen. I wonder if they even asked because my son told me it was because the girl had something he wanted. I don't know how to resolve something when I'm not there, and I don't know how to improve his behavior.

I think he is acting out because he isn't having as much as he should be having... or maybe it is because I'm pregnant. I just don't know.

  • Th leArning experience is a pretty awesome company. They offer a lot of classes which are included in the tuition (music, science, dance etc). They are all strictly run by the parent company and have to live up to certain criteria including who they hire. Plus, price wise, I've found them to be very reasonable. I know some people even got 20% off for the first year!!

    Good luck!!!

  • We have a Learning Experience near us and looked at it a couple years ago before DS1 was born I liked it but we found it to be overpriced. Look up some reviews online...I have seen both good and bad reviews online about it. Both my kids on now home with a fulltime nanny since it worked out to be more cost effective for us, but DS1 is enrolled in a pre-school 3 mornings a week where they do coloring, reading, music and a bunch of other activities. i don't think there is actual work involved, but I do know that there are schools in the area that do expect alot from the kids at this age.
