Sleeping situations....

My husband and I sleep in a full-sized bed, which is perfect for the two of us. I cannot, however, imagine putting another being, no matter how tiny, in it with us. We are looking at pack and plays and we also have a carrycot that came with our stroller that I'm wondering about for the first few months. I want baby near and to be able to nurse with as easily as possible. The co-sleeper seems great, but can't be used for too long and is expensive (although I do have my eye out for used). We just are at a loss as this is our first. Advice? Thank you.

Do you want to bedshare or cosleep (sleep nearby/in the same room)? If cosleeping, I would recommend just a bassinet or PnP or something. If bedshare... Do you have room to either side car your crib? Is there a bigger mattress somewhere you can use for a while? We have a queen sized air mattress that we use as our guest bed mattress. It has memory foam and is actually really comfortable. Setting up a floor bed might be a good option, and plus it gives you extra "bed" space if you ever need it.

We are open to either situation. I love the idea of bedsharing because nursing is so convenient with baby right there. Thank you for your ideas - we have some things to work out in the next few months....

  • While we did a cosleeper for a while (and we used it for about a year - my husband custom built it for our bed, but it was based on the size of a portable crib mattress (PnP mattress).  Now we have our old queen mattress on the floor (next to our king bed) that she (and often I) sleep on.  My husband generally stays on the kig.  But a toddler can take up a queen all by herself. :P
