any c.o.n.v.i.o people on here?

dh woke me up to the news that blackbaud is buying co.nvio.  i'm sure he will tell me more later but things like this always make me so nervous.

does anyone know more than what is in the news?  are people at con.vio seeing this as a good thing?

Re: any c.o.n.v.i.o people on here?

  • My friend who's wife works there hadn't even heard the news yet. He said he'll chat her up and get back to me.
  • Loading the player...
  • they told the employees at 8.  K is with their sales team today so i am sure he will come home with more info.

i just wonder what people think about being acquired by their competitor.  to go from being head-to-head at nearly every sales deal to working together?  must be odd, ya know?

  • My friend hasn't been able to reach his wife, but when he read the article that i sent him (what you posted) and did some more digging, his response was "I hope she still has good stock options." I'll let you know if I hear anything else once he talks to her. The biggest concern that I would have in a situation like this would be a merger and what that would mean for job security. When Oracle bought Sun, Sun hemorrhaged staff. I hope that isn't the case here, but I know my friends always have backup plans in place so probably aren't too concerned.
  • Mollie, if your DH ends up deciding to look for a job, feel free to PM me.  I work at BV full-time, and I think we probably have similar jobs as Convio (even though it isn't the same industry).

  • Thanks slobina!! I probably worded that oddly- dh doesnt work there but we both did at one point and about 80% of dh's consulting clients come to him from being a convio client so this will impact his business one way or another.
  • Gotcha.  Well, the offer still stands if he's interested. Smile

  • DH is no longer there, but we heard the news.  He will probably be chatting with coworkers today.  I agree it would be weird to go from being major competitors to co-workers and imagine a lot of people would leave as a result.

  • omg cia!!  how is elisa 7 months old already??
  • So. Word on the street is that the buyer will pay a very good premium 49% to Friday's close in NASDQ, which leads those in the know to believe that they actually want con.vi.o for their softwar. If that is the case than the developers and engineering team should be mostly, relatively, safe. Sentiment on the inside - at least from where I'm hearing is mostly positive. As with any buy/merger, they know that there's a chance that anything can happen, but the attitude isn't pessimistic yet. The deal is also not yet approved, so anything can happen.
  • So here is my take - BB is losing out in the cloud space. They don't have a play in the online space like Con~vio does. That's where Con~vio has made their play and had been doing well. (I know a lot about their Com.mon G.rou.nd product it's built on the platform in the cloud that I work in.)  I'm surprised a bit that BB bought them, but it's a smart move.  The 2 together will be a powerhouse in the NPO space.

That said - I'm sure there is some nervousness around it. I'd be nervous too.  You never know how these things will shake out. But like pp said, BB needs Con~vio's offering - particularly around the online offerings that make Con~vio strong. I doubt the CV products are going away. But I can understand if your DHs consulting business comes from them...that's definitely something to watch and see how the landscape may be affected.

  • yes, we talked earlier and the biggest question people have right now product wise is what will happen to com.mon groun.d.  that is a big chunk of the consulting.  it is an interesting pairing for sure.

Just a random FYI - if he's ever looking, let me know.  :)  We don't consult on CG but it's in a similar space.

Good luck.  I'll be interested to see how this all goes down.
