27 months, y'all. Twenty-seven months of M-F having 24 hour duty as a mom and business owner while dh lived and worked in Houston. I don't want to even add up the days of how many bath times, and dinner times, and bedtime routines, and sick children days, and trips to school that had to do by myself.
DH was home tonight when I got home from teaching (8 pm). I'm in shock--he tells me that he got in a fight with his boss and quit his job. I'm alternating being panic (can you get your job back?) and calm (OK, we can get through this), and then about 30 minutes of letting me play this out he tells me that he got a job in San Marcos. He drove home to tell us in person.
Excuse me while I go down a bottle of wine..... Any suggestions on where to live in the Austin--San Marcos area or anywhere in between would be appreciated! We're going to make this work---full time job for him in San Marcos, and business owner for me in Cedar Park--I'm going to be hiring my office manager more hours, and hopefully put in 2 full days myself. So I'll need to make the drive to Cedar Park 2 days a week.
I'll probably delete this later because we both hate job info out on the internet, but you have all heard my whining for 2 years now about this, that I had to share the good news!
Re: 27 months
Wow! What a huge change and also WOO HOO! I can't imagine how difficult that was for you. This sounds so much better
Oh K, I'm sooo happy for you!!!!
You should look into Buda. When I drive from RR to north SA it takes about 30 minutes to get to Buda. (obviously getting off 35 and going somewhere would be longer) and only about 10-15 minutes to SM from Buda (depending on where.) I know there are Nesties in Buda so I'm sure they can tell you about it.
Also, Kyle would be a good place to look. A little further from CP, but not bad for 2 days a week and closer to SM.
Sweet!!
I don't know about San Marcos, but I live in PF and used to work off William Canon. The drive was long, but doable. Would be much more tolerable now with 130 open. Maybe a house in South Austin would be a compromise? Congrats to him!!

I can't believe he waited 30 minutes to tell you!! But congratulations! That is going to be so great for y'all.
If you're wanting to be closer to his work than yours, then you have lots of options. I'm sure some other girls have more info on south Austin suburbs, but there are some great options between San Marcos and Central Austin. Good luck!
Man life changes are exhilarating, aren't they? Congrats!
What time of day would you have to be in Cedar Park?
I live in South, South Austin (Wm. Cannon/MoPac) and my parents live in North Austin, so I've done the commute many times. If you don't have to get on the road at peak hours, that's the key - could take as little as 30 minutes to make it to 183/620 at 10 as opposed to 8/9 where it would be over an hour. As far as San Marcos, in rush hour it will be about an hour, but in off-time takes about 30 minutes for me to make it to the outlets. The drawback to my neighborhood is the schools (not awesome, but not the worst either), but if you go just west of mopac to western oaks, or just southwest to circle c, you'll have much better options and easy access to moPac to head north.
I also think SW would be great, and the best compromise for both of you. Schools are great too. Oh, and we're looking to buy in that area, so I'm not biased or anything!
Hooray!
Yayyyy- Congratulations!
As far as area- do either of you have flexible schedules or off-peak commute? Once you're south of the river, there isn't much traffic from Austin to San Antonio- you're going to opposite direction of most commuters. From south Austin, it takes about 40 minutes to get to Cedar Park with no traffic (I timed it yesterday). Like bobcatsteph mentioned, you also have the toll road from Buda, which is a great area as well.
