DS turned 3 this month, and he continues to want nothing to do with the potty. DH and I don't pressure him about the potty, but we both go to the bathroom with the door open so DS can see how we go to the bathroom, we talk to DS about going potty, he has a potty book, and he has a potty seat he picked out and likes to sit on with his clothes on. Bribes don't work. DH and I have only gotten him to sit on the potty with no pants and diaper a total of 5 times.
DS shows all the physical and verbal signs of being ready to potty train. He will ask me for diaper changes and say thank you when he has been wiped cleaned. He can go a long time with a clean and dry diaper. He just doesn't want to sit on the potty, and I don't know how to get him to do it without it becoming stressful or negative for him.
He also doesn't like to not be fully dressed, and I'm wondering if maybe that's why he is so resistant to trying to go potty, he has to take off his pants and diaper for it and he throws a fit any time he's not wearing pants and a shirt
Any ideas or suggestions? DH and I are thinking of putting him in underwear next weekend, dealing with the accidents, and hoping this will push DS into trying to go potty.
Re: DS wants nothing to do with the potty
DD is just over 2 and pretty much potty trained. It was kind of funny how it started. We had a potty chair, 2 actually, and all she would do is put her toys in them, ewww i know, but hey they were never used! LOL. Then we went to my aunts house and she had a singing potty! WHAT?!?? And she loved it! She actually wanted to pee in the potty so it could sing to her!
After that we had a little difficulty (the potty at least got her intereted in the ones we had at home). so we just stopped diapers all together. Lots of accidents for sure, but she HATED having herself be wet! We put her in loose pants and she would have it down her leg and all. She doesnt really have a problem being naked from the waist down. We got her these really cool socks that go up above her knees to keep her warm and we call them her pee pee socks! They have eeyore on them, nothing too fancy, we just made a big deal out of her getting to wear them! We kind of use a variation of the potty training in 3 days.
I would just try no underoos. No underwear just pants. when we put underwear on DD she still felt like she was wearing a diaper and it wasnt as effective. dont know if this may help?? but it is daunting and takes a lot more effort on the parents part to be consistent more than anything! good luck!
