Muffin top vs. saggy jeans (NTR) Please help.

I have no sense of style.  I once tried to wear blue fuzzy sweatpants with a fancy red top to my husband's family Christmas party (I was 16, but still...).  Anyway, after having two kids pretty close together (I have a 28 month old and a 7 month old) I have plenty of weight to lose.  With my son, I lost very little until he suddenly stopped nursing at ten months, and then it started to come off quickly.  Of course, two months later I got a BFP and the weight loss stopped.  I'm expecting that I'm going to hang on to a lot of this until my daughter stops nursing, so I took in a pair of jeans I had that were saggy.  I'm in between sizes right now, so my choice is either buying a new pair that is slightly too big, or slightly tighter than the taken-in ones.

They're a wee bit tight, so I have some muffin top.  My husband swears that muffin top is better than how saggy they were (he called them my "skateboarding" pants).  Is muffin top as bad as mom jeans?

  • Hmmmm...good question.  I am having the same sizing problem...although I'm the same weight I was pre-pregnancy with my 2nd.  I'm very short, and clothes have never fit me right.  I think I am more comfy in the baggy pants and I use a belt.  That being said...not flattering.  With a muffin top, I'm definitely more uncomfortable, but I can hide it with a shirt that is not form fitting.  It's a tough call.  Sorry I'm of no help.  :(

  • I am also very short.  Before I got pregnant, I used to wear lower rise jeans, and they looked great.  I am  now about 10 pounds above my pre pregnancy weight, which is a lot when you're under 5' tall.  So, I've found that the way to avoid the muffin top that occurs with my lower rise jeans is to get some that have a slightly higher waist, but still fit like the pre-preg ones everywhere else.  I just bought a pair at Macy's that is Style & Co (I think it's their own brand). They are called something to the effect of tummy tuck jeans.  They are amazing!  They are stretchy, with a higher waist that totally sucks in your stomach.  They were only about $30.

    Thanks!  I'll try these.

  • I have the same problem.. i try to wear clothes that are as close to fitting as i can to work.. so a little loose if needed. At home I usually cram myself into pants a little smaller because I feel more comfortable that having them fall off my butt.. all depends on the day though Wink

  • Honestly, neither are acceptable. You have to dress the widest part of your body and have the rest tailored. It sucks, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Still, if you go for the muffin top (like I have) use a long loose top to cover it.

  • Try Nordstrom. They have some jeans with a pretty high rise, but they are cut to look like they are lower rise jeans, if that makes sense. This helps control the muffin top but they dont look like mom jeans either. I think the brand I found there was Jag. They weren't super expensive, but probably $75 or so. I've found investing in even one pair of decent jeans helped me get through until I could work off the rest of the weight and get back into my cute jeans.

Nordstrom is amazing for help with fitting anything. Their sale people are trained to take as long as it takes to find you the right fit and they have a tailoring department right there ready to measure you and tailor for a very decent price. Plus, if all else fails they will take ANYTHING back even if it has been tailored. For jeans, bras and other must-fit items that you wear everyday, I wouldn't go anywhere else.
