I am not quite there yet, but I have my 40 week appt on Thursday. Dr doesn't want me to go past 41 weeks so I will probably discuss an induction for late next week if nothing happens on its own before then. I really want to just let it happen on its own but having an evac date is starting to sound really good right now.

I have my 40 week appt tomorrow. I don't think they'll let me go past 41 weeks unfortunately. I really am going to push to not have an induction because I really wanted a natural birth.
I'm feeling really frustrated now though. I thought LO would be here by now! I'm ready to have my outside baby!
40 + 5 here! Another NST scheduled for today and we'll make a decision about an induction, but I know my doc doesn't want me going too much past 41 weeks, which is Wednesday. Physically, I feel great still, but emotionally, I am honestly feeling like I've given this kid plenty of time to make a move on its' own, and if I was having ANY contractions I would probably be pushing to wait until at least the end of the week, but they're just not happening. I am also finding out that doing kick counts is extremely stressful, so I am feeling ready to make a decision and a plan.
After TTC with IR PCOS:

At 40w6d, our Team Green surprise came by unplanned C-section and changed our lives forever!
My doctor won't let me go past 41 weeks, it's her standard policy, so if LO hasn't arrived by my appointment on Thursday she will schedule me to be induced at the next available time at the hospital. I really thought I was going into labor yesterday morning when I woke up, but contractions stopped and I stopped spotting...however, I just slipped and fell on my rear taking the dog out so maybe something got jiggled loose..
40+4... induction scheduled to begin Wednesday night because doc doesn't want me to go past 41 weeks (Thursday). Thought things were starting to move along naturally yesterday, but no dice. I feel very not-pregnant today. Can't really explain it, but I just feel kinda fat and "normal" today.
I am not quite there but will be soon and don't see any signs she is coming out early (DS was over two weeks late). I am waiting it out. I refuse to be induced and our midwife is very understanding. She says as long as baby looks healthy we can talk again at 42 weeks. I'm uncomfortable but not as much as I would be with artificial hormones in me!
I don't understand how the Dr can just say "I don't let you go past 41, period"? That doesn't make sense! The average natural pregnancy goes 41 weeks, 3 days so why would they have a policy like that? Can someone tell me why their Dr. has that policy?
40w6d (i think) today. We have our 41 week appointment tomorrow and will start an herbal regimen with castor oil probably (ugh). I'm allowed to go to 42 weeks, but then have to be transferred to the hospital to be induced. I was actually having uncomfortable contractions all night last night 1 min long, 6 mins apart, which are more like labor contractions than the 2 min long BH I've been having for weeks. But they stopped being crampy, and are farther apart now, so hopefully they'll pick up again soon!! Good luck to everyone!!!

Due today. Have my 40 week appointment in 40 minutes so we will see what they say. My practice does not like to intervene and at last weeks appointment they said all looked good and we would just keep chugging along. I do not want induction if at all possible, despite the fact that my carpal tunnel has me in complete misery and way too much pain. Come on little guy, let's get a move on!

Your placenta starts to shut down and stillbirth occurrences double:( no bueno.

Honestly, a lot of it is about liability. The chances of something going wrong in that last week is higher b/c of the placenta as pp mentioned. And I think at my practice some of it is for their own convenience as well so that my own dr. will be the dr. delivering me instead of whatever one is on-call from the practice. It makes me kinda sad that I will probably not get to go into labor on my own because of that, but my other option around here is the birth center, and they take way too many chances for my liking (letting women go to 44 or 45 weeks pregnant, not being careful about kick counts, etc.). I do like my dr., but I would love to be able to find a place that is a happy medium. I had to be induced last time (they said I had pre-e, but it was just nerves making my bp high), and pitocin is not fun.

I meant After 42 not 41 weeks. My dr schedules at 41 weeks so you could still be over that by a few days. Also, most people do not know the date they conceived so you could really be a few days ahead or behind. 41 weeks is safer than pushing it to the limit. As much as I don't want an induction you have to acknowledge they've saved a lot of little babies lives.
Hey ladies- I'm 40 weeks and 2 days today. I've made it to about 2cm with lots of cramping and I had the bloody show on friday. I'm extremely uncomfortable at this point and would love for my LO to be here already. My doctor doesn't want me to go past 41 weeks either so hopefully things will move along soon. Good luck to all of you
I'm 40 wks 1 day... Have an ultrasound on wed and see my MW on Friday. My DS came 2 days early and was 9 lbs 6 oz so I'm real nervous plus I'm trying for a VBAC. I'm really confident I will go naturally this week before my appt on Friday though! After that I have no idea what they will suggest considering my previous birth and family history.

yup it's a yet another issue of debate for pregnant women.
So why the policy? liability reasons, because no body can stamp a date on your forehead and declare you "late" since the gestation period is approximate and a "normal" gestation period is supposed to be 37-42 weeks ISH. People have forgotten about that and doctors just want the baby OUT so everyone is "safe".
Unless you are birthing at home though or have quite liberal healthcare providers you are stuck into thinking you are endangering your baby's life by going "past" 41 or 42 weeks when really (depending on your specific circumstances) this may not be true at all- but this has become our reality.
Still here. *sigh. VERY tired of 'had you had the baby yet' questions, lol, but I'm trying to keep it in the perspective of 'everyone is asking because they care and that's a good and wonderful feeling....' . We will not induce, just going to wait it out. I'm 40 weeks, 2 days.

Just a question...a few of you have mentioned that your doctors don't "let" you go past 41 weeks...so what happens if you refused the induction? Do they drop you as patients? Because a doctor can't actually make you get induced...

I'm actually doing pretty good. Each day I get a little more done to prepare and be more organized (although I am getting sick of it.) I have my appointment tomorrow so I hope they check me and send me to the hospital. I've shed a few tears, but I am trying to enjoy this time with my kids, especially my 21 month old, who has been able to stay "the baby" a little longer:)

Thanks! My midwife said we can talk again at 42 weeks. She was there when I delivered my son at 42 weeks, 3 days and she said based on the look of my placenta and how much fluid I had he could have probably stayed in there another month!

I mentioned that my doctor doesn't want me going too much past 41 weeks, so I'm not sure if I'm in the category that you're addressing in your question, but if I refused an induction until 42 weeks, I would be in the office pretty much every other day doing NSTs and frequent u/s's with the understanding that if they noticed anything abnormal in either, they would send me right to the hospital.
In my case, I'm comfortable with the 41 week-ish recommendation because I am so sure of date of conception and it's not just based on an early u/s.
