Poll: Your 3YO's Favorite Toys from Christmas/Their Bday

Anything that your child particularly loved? I hate having a son with a bday on the heels of Christmas. I can't really come up with anything else to get him  besides just getting him something "just to get it" ( random books, art supplies, play doh, etc.)

I still feel like he should have a few more gifts to open...He is getting a Step 2 roller coaster (Craigslist score), Thomas puzzle set (he hates puzzles, but I am hoping he'll get into more "grown-up" ones), Cars 2, Cars 2 t-shirt, a few games I bought last year on sale and that is it!  Oh and a monster track set that I caught on sale at Target. Just doesn't seem like much! He already has a bunch of the bigger stuff - train table, Geo Trax, play kitchen, bike, power wheels, scooter...

  • Tent and or tunnels if you have the room.  DS plays with them daily.  We use them as a bargaining toy.  He is crushed to lose them over anything including computer/tv time

  • I think what you listed sounds fine, especially with a birthday on the heels of Christmas. He wont know the difference if he doesn't get more stuff (and will he also get stuff from family?). DDs birthday is this coming week and we're buying her a 'big girl' bed, but nothing to open on the day. She wont know or care.

But because you asked, DS got Cars-themed remote control cars for Christmas that he really enjoys.

  • You know the scene in the first Harry Potter movie where Dudley counts his birthday presents and is upset that he got more last year?  I always keep that in mind for DD's Christmas and birthday gifts.  I figure when she's 8, I'm going to regret it if the bar has been set too high lol.  I'm sure he'll get gifts from other people, too, so he'll have plenty to open.  He'll also be able to appreciate what you've gotten him more if there isn't a huge pile of new toys to sort through.  Just my opinion :)

  • Our boys turned 3 about two weeks after Christmas so I know what you mean! Their favorite gifts have been their Little Tikes workbench, Captain America and Spiderman masks, various action figures (mostly involving vehicles), their Melissa and Doug Joey magnetic dress-up doll, LarryMobile (Veggie Tales), and their Step Two easel.

  • DS got a rug with roads on it for Christmas and he loves it!  We play cars on it everyday!

He also got the Vtech Slide and Talk smartphone.  He can play with the quiz feature on it for long periods of time and really likes the independence of it.

  • That sounds like plenty!  Our kids get one or two toys on their birthday.

ETA:  DS is really into the Imaginext toys right now.  He has the space shuttle and the aircraft carrier.

  • Our DD loved the UNO Moo game!!!  We play it every night after dinner.  We also got her the Wii Nickelodeon game which she also loves.  Her birthday is this week.  We usually just buy a bunch of stuff for the holidays and put a few things aside for her birthday.  We are giving her a Wii Kai-Lan game and a beading kit...she loves Arts and crafts.  Thinking back on it we stress so much in choosing these gifts and let me tell you right now she is playing with some cut up pieces of paper and some drinking straws.

  • DS's birthday is Jan. 12 and we just had his party yesterday. It is hard figuring out gifts for both. For Christmas, he loved the Imagintex airplanes, Geotrax cars, Cars 2 movie, and sleeping bag/pillow pet he got. For his birthday, we bought him a bike.

  • DS's favorites are the big Melissa and Doug floor puzzles and the imaginext airplanes and space shuttle.  The puzzles have definitely gotten the most use, they are already coming apart after less than 1 month.

  • I think what you have is MORE than enough.  If not in your game stash, consider The Ladybug Game (not girly and DD loves it).  ETA:  One thing DD got for Christmas at 3.5 was her art easel and she loves it.

  • It sounds like he's getting plenty. DS loves this latch board from Melissa and Doug:

    https://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-Deluxe-Latches-Board/dp/B000NVBE1A/ref=dp_cp_ob_t_title_0

DS also loves his new t-ball stand. He has tons of matchbox and hotwheel cars but he really loves these pull back n go cars:

    https://www.amazon.com/Die-cast-Metal-Yellow-Corvette-Action/dp/B00456O772/ref=sr_1_3?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1326734333&sr=1-3

He has the yellow corvette and a green pickup truck. They're bigger than matchbox cars and the doors open up.

Books are always well received too. DS got his first Curious George book, and now he has renamed this stuff monkey that he never played with before, George, and takes him everywhere.

Candy land has a really simple train version of their game.

  • DDs b-day is coming up and I feel the same way- that being said I am very much at peace with her not getting a lot from us for her birthday. I just bought a babycakes maker because she saw the informercial for the pan on TV and said she wanted it for her birthday, buying the maker @ Kohl's on sale w/ a coupon was cheaper and I figured it would be faster/more fun than the pan. Anyway I brought it home and we immediately used it, but I told her it's for her birthday.

She has a collection of Groovy Girl dolls and I bought her a new-to-her horse off of E-bay and another GG princess doll.

I am asking my parents and in-laws to give her an activity (like an indoor gymnastics class or after-school enrichment) instead of more toys.
