thanks all! i edited my op but don't even know how to properly note that... i removed cash. i love it but dh vetoed. he works in finance so he thinks it too contrived! guess i could see that...
Hudson - Unless you're from somewhere around the Hudson or the name has some significance for the child, I don't like place/landmark names for babies. It's a smidge pretentious IMO.
Skylar - Girl name
Julien - Makes me think of France and it's a tad feminine.
Oliver - Hipsterish, but cute.
Miles - Hipsterish, but also cute, and gaining in popularity since Lost I've noticed.
Liam - Like
Jude - Like, but not brave enough to use myself.
James - Love. Stong, solid name.
Quentin - Too squeaky sounding. I can't say it without feeling like I'm sucking on a lemon.
Holden - Can't separate from Catcher in the Rye, but like.
Mason - Played. This goes in the Caden/Hayden/Jayden camp of overused trendy names for me.

Well then that I like And as a middle name I think that's a sweet homage
thanks all! this board is my guilty pleasure when i'm stuck watching football... now all i need to do is get ktfu! going to let skylar and quentin go from my list... they're dh's least favs too.
My DS is Holden so I'm partial and we love it! A lot of people compliment it but a lot of people call him Colton or colden if they don't hear it clearly we love it and haven't regretted it!
Also love Hudson but I told DH no since we already have Holden
I hate Skylar. But if you used the spelling Schuyler then it would move into the 'like' category. Skylar seems like a cheerleader or dog name to me.
Schuyler? How on Earth would this be pronounced as "Skylar" to someone reading it off a piece of paper? Wouldn't that be pronounced "Shhh-ooo-l-er" in proper English or are you from the south? I'm just wondering. This poor kid will have the worst time with teachers trying to pronounce his name in class.

Hudson: This is ok, a little pretentious sounding.
Skylar: I don't like this for either sex.
Julien: NMS
Oliver: I like this but it is becoming a bit overused.
Miles:
Liam: See Oliver.
Jude: LOVE this name but again - it is creeping into the top spots!
James: NMS, plain and boring to me, but it is a classic and I do think it is a strong name.
Quentin: NMS
Holden: I did like this, then it became really popular. I especially don't like that people who are not particularly literary are using it for a its literary reference because it is one of the few books they read in high school and it changed their life etc.... Sorry, bit of a rant.
Mason: NMS.
Out of your choices, my favorites are Oliver, Miles, and Jude. Take my opinion as it is though - an opinion of a person who is NOT naming your child. Choose the one you and H love the most!! Good luck!
I like everything but... Holden (seems pretentious to me), Quentin (bad association for me), Julien and Oliver I'm not crazy about. Skyler I like more for a girl but it's cute either way.

Skylar is an American bastardization of the Dutch name. Do a little research before contradicting someone, mmkay?
From a Dutch surname meaning "scholar". Dutch settlers brought the
surname to America, where it was subsequently adopted as a given name in
honour of the American general and senator Philip Schuyler (1733-1804).

First thoughts...
Hudson - Unless you're from near the Hudson, or the name has some other significance to the child, I think place names are a little pretentious.
Skylar - Girl name
Julien - Too feminine for my tastes - unless your heritage is French, then it works
Oliver - Hipsterish, but cute
Miles - Hipsterish, but cute, and gaining in popularity since Lost it seems.
Liam - Like
Jude - Like, but not brave enough to use myself
James - Love. Strong, solid name. A little old-fashioned in a good way.
Quentin - Too squeaky sounding for my tastes. I feel like I'm sucking a lemon when I say it.
Holden - Can't separate from Catcher in the Rye, but like.
Mason - Played. This goes along with Cayden/Jayden/Hayden in the overused trendy name game for me.
