Yes, true. I'd wait to buy any nursing bras until right before your EDD or right after, when your milk comes in... the girls can grow up to 2 cup sizes!! lol
The Target nursing tanks are so comfortable - even without wires. You're so sore for a while, it feels good.
You can get some with an underwire but you'll need to go to a maternity store. Personally I live in my Target nursing tanks, even now when I only nurse twice a day.
I have a bunch of Target nursing tanks, its all I wear! I also have some nursing bras but have only worn one once when I had to dress up. I love the comfort and easy access of the nursing tanks. Underwire? No thank you!
p.s. I also have a few Gap nursing shirts that have been VERY handy, but with the nursing tanks you don't really have to wear nursing tops since you will already have your stomach covered with the tank. HTH.
I too LOVED in my Target nursing Tanks. 24/7 for 13 months I wore one! I did buy 4 nursing bra's from Target too (they had the best selection of anywehre else, and I went everywhere) but I'd rather have my belly covered, then nursing anywhere is very comfortable.
"they" recommend not getting nursing bra's with underwire for the reason's Poe said.
The only down side with the Target tanks is they loose their elasticity. In the beginning mine were super tight, then toward the end, they were more about the coverage than any support.
The tanks work just like the bra's with the little clasp that you un-do to pull down the flap over your breasts. Specific nursing shirts have a bunch of different configurations. Ther is empire, side opening, front access layer etc.... Go to Motherwear.com and take a look at the different options. It'll at least give you an idea of how things work. I bought 3 or 4 of their shirts but ended up prefering to wear a reg shirt with my tanks.
Here's my question...if you were large chested to begin with, you're only going to get larger....do the nursing tanks still keep you in place enough to be out in public?
I don't nurse in public very often (Will is a wiggler, a de-latcher, and a grab-mom's-shirt-and-push-it-away-er), but I pretty much live in the Target nursing tanks too. It's not as much support as I'd like, since I've got big boobs and had underwire since 6th grade, but I'm comfortable in them and they don't give me a uniboob like the two nursing bras I own.
Oh, I wanted to suggest trying on different types of bras and tanks. The clasps can make a huge difference. My first nursing bras I had to feed the little bar through a hole from the side. I had to use both hands to do this - not exactly ideal with a baby sitting in your lap. The target nursing tanks and the Motherhood nursing bras I ended up getting have a hook closure which is easy to hook together with one hand.
Nordy's does bra fittings and they have a nice selection. Motherhood has a ton of options too, but their return policy SUCKS, so be prepared to try them on. If you find one you like from Motherhood, buy 2 or 3 because their styles change (just slightly) all the time!!
To give you an idea, I'm at 38DD (right now) and my tanks give me enough support to go out in public and wear them everyday. Mine are pretty tight right now and I think that helps with the support (and sucking in my tummy!).
