Is Peg Perego really worth the cost?

I'm starting to do my research on strollers and car seats and while I do like peg perego, they are really expensive. Do any of you have peg perego products, and are they worth it?

Re: Is Peg Perego really worth the cost?

  • I'm curious about this too.  We registered for the car seat.  The lady at BBB talked it up to DH.  The adjustment in the back is awesome...it is really simple to do.

  • I did a lot of research on baby gear when I was pregnant with DS and I really don't think their stuff is worth the cost.  There are several brands of car seats and strollers that are cheaper and just as good, if not better as far as features and quality go.

  • we have the chico key fit 30, but if we had the extra money to spend i would have gotten the peg perego car seat. i think there are a lot of brands that are similar but it's one of the top lines in car seats, in my opinion.

  • I have a peg perego stroller that I love! It is so easy to open and close and folds up really small so it is great for throwing in the trunk. I see them all the time at yard sales and on craigslist so maybe check there if you are interestied in them. I got mine in almost new condition at a yard sale for $10!

  • I believe it's worth the cost. My first experience with PP was 16 years ago whn my sister was born. My stepmom bought a Peg stroller and it was really great. Super easy to close, the quality was amazing and it was a really smooth ride. The stroller lasted for years too (through 2 more of my younger siblings).

That being said, I think there is cheaper baby gear available that is just as "safe". I got the PP infant car seat on super sale, and I may not have gotten it if I had to pay full price. Bottom line (IMO) is that if it fits into your budget it's worth it.

     Hope this makes sense!

  • My mom has told me she has seen Peg Perego strollers at HomeGoods. Just a thought if you are looking to save some $ on one.

    $10? wow! that is awesome!

  • From my experience, the strollers are not. I've only shopped for a double stroller made by them, so maybe their single strollers are better. The doubles have really poor reviews on Amazon, so I'm not the only one who thinks this. Even the sales guy at our store said he wouldn't buy one - the strap system in their Aria strollers comes unsnapped any time your child leans forward. They are also difficult to steer with any weight in them.

I would pay extra for Britax, who does extensive safety testing above standard testing, but I wouldn't pay extra for Peg (which says it is Italian but is made in China).

See reviews here for one of their double strollers....

I know I about fell over! They lady had 3 kids and had bought PP strollers for all of them when they were born so she had 3 for sale.  She was having her oldest daughter price everything for her, who clearly knew nothing about the strollers.  I think she really just wanted to get rid of her stuff!

  • I might spend the money for the strollers (although I had one and HATED it) but I wouldn't spend it on the infant carseats. There are plenty of other options of infant seats out there that will last just as long (if not longer) for much cheaper and they are just as nice and as safe. All carseats are tested by the same standards and none are proven to be safer than the others. A baby is not in an infant seat long enough (usually a year at most) to justify spending that kind of money. I would consider it for a convertible carseat though (but the new Peg convertible seat isn't out yet, so not sure).

We really like our PP Aria twin! It was totally worth the money. We got it on sale for under $200 because it was right before they changed the color patterns.

We had both models of the Aria twin (50/50 and 60/40). The 50/50 is the older model where the front wheels are as wide as the back wheels making it very hard to turn corners. The new model is the 60/40 and the wheels have been moved more to the middle of the stroller's step. Its much, much easier to steer! Even with two toddlers we took that stroller everywhere. The 60/40 will also hold other brand carseats and has a locking mechanism under the seat pad.

Also, the harness doesn't come off at any point. It's called a 'freedom of movement' harness and the only part that comes away is the back allowing the child to lean forward. It's fully locked at the chest and lap. They can't stand up or get out unless they can undo those locking buckles.

Their customer service was outstanding. One of our trays was damaged during travel and they sent us a new one because it was under warranty.

  • I have a Peg Perego Pliko stroller and matching carseat/carrier I used with DD and it has held up very well. That being said, I found the stroller at Marshall's on sale for $135 and got the coordinating carseat (new) on eBay. I liked both items but would not have paid full price for either of them.

On another note, when she moved to a bigger carseat we tried several before finally settling on the Britax Marathon. It was the most expensive, but I have been VERY happy with it. I'm thinking of leaving the Peg set with my Mom for this LO and getting a coordinating carseat/carrier and the Britax B-ready so I can use it for both kids.

  • NO!!! on the carseat.  We've only had the chicco carseat and on a vacation our friends had us use their peg perego- I hated it!  Her head just ended up flopping forward when she fell asleep- it's way to high up.  That was at 11 months even, so I can't imagine putting a newborn in it.
  • I researched every option out there when pg with DS. I didn't feel the peg brought anything extra to the table over Graco and Chicco that was worth the extra money. I ended up buying the snugride/snap n' go and investing in a nice light weight stroller. I was VERY happy that I didn't commit to one brand for everything and that I didn't spend extra money on something what wasn't necessary. I also made sure that I was able to spend the $ I wanted to on the Britax convertible seat. They are in the infant carrier for such a short time compared to the convertible seat that to me it wasn't worth it. FWIW DS was very comfortable in the Graco seat and very safe. GL deciding!

  • Go look at BRU.  We just got a stroller and car seat for almost 50% off!  The only color option was java for the discount as they aren't going to carry that color anymore so they wanted to get them off the shelf.  We wouldn't have spent the extra money on it but it ended up being cheaper than the Chicco Keyfit 30 so we could justify it!

I also saw the Plikko stroller at Home Goods but watch out as it was $250 and we got ours for $180 at BRU.

The manager at BRU was telling us the PP and Chicco are similar in safety but he said the PP is a little higher quality and he suggested going with the PP for sure since it was going to be cheaper.

  • Yes!  We bought the car seat for DD because it passed European testing standards which are much tougher than US standards (they include front, rear and SIDE impact).  PP consistently tested well in Europe and the seats they manufacture for the US meet those same standards.

  • I have found out that craigslist is a good place to also get nice stuff at cheap prices.
  • I have the money to spend on a PP car seat but went with the Chicco Keyfit 30 instead.  Safety is the same.  Both have very high ratings.  THe car seat will be used for 1 year.

Now, for the stroller I am going with a BOB.  For me it makes sense to invest in (one of) the best because it functions better than its competitors and I'll get years of use out of it.

Oh, and I wouldn't buy a carseat used.  I just wouldn't, unless it was really all I could afford.  I'd  go with a $100 graco new before a used PP.

  • After all my research...I thought this was the best car seat for us because...

    1. Side impact protection. I did not see others with the same head protection as others. I was really impressed by this.

    2. Three secure snaps into the base. This car seat has 3 secure points onto the base that goes in the car. I really liked that.

    3. Leather. This one might sound stupid but I was talking to some moms about how the leather makes it so easy to clean up. They have these wipes that just clean messes right up!

    4. Height adjustments. This line seems to have the easiest to adjust for your kid.

So yeah...for us...this ended up being the best one. The leather makes it a tiny bit more expensive but you do not have to take the leather...the other safety things are worth it to me =)

Good luck in your search. This baby buying stuff is hard work!!
