Baby Names

Orlo

DH's grandfather's name was Orlo. They were very close and he is set on naming our son (if we have one) Orlo Nicholas. I'm getting on board with this but wondering what others think of the name. Too dated? Just odd? Love it?

We have two daughters named

Wren Elizabeth and Isla Josephine.

Re: Orlo

  • Orlo is weird to me but if you and H are all for it, why worry about what others think? It's not like it is way out there especially since it has family significance. It's not bad, just NMS. It actually sounds nice with Wren and Isla.

  • It is a little hard to say, but I love the meaning behind it. It is a bit of a tongue twister when you say your children's names together.........Wren, Isla and Orlo. It is a unique name.........it is kind of growing on me now too!  I say use it, sounds very special to your husband, what a nice gesture to him.
  • I like it- especially since it has a family significance. I think its unique without being weird or difficult to pronounce. Plus, old fashioned names are a hot trend right now.
  • not a fan

oreo and orzo are the first two things i thought of

    love your girl names

  • Don't like it but it does work well with your daughters' names

  • I LOVE Orlo.  Adorable!  I think it goes so well with Wren and Isla, because all three are uncommon, gorgeous names.  I love the four letter theme.  :)
  • I'm mulling it over... Out of curiousity, what is the background of the name?

  • I don't normally suggest names randomly, but how about Orlando?

  • I think it's cool to honor your DH's grandfather in such a way, and although I've never heard the name Orlo before, I don't think it's far-fetched. My mind went to the character name Otho in "Beetlejuice" right-quick, but it reminds me of Arlo, too. Bottom line: I think it'd be nice.
  • I've never really thought about this name before, but I kind of like it! There's something very sweet about it. It could definitely grow on me.

Isla and Orlo as a sibset feel too similar to me though. I don't like them together. Sorry.

  • I love it! It's different but doesn't sound made up. I love the family significance and it goes so well with your daughters' names.
