DS is allergy prone and get so upset when his nose is runny. I cannot seem to get him to understand how to blow out as opposed to snorting it up. It so frustrating.
I tried comparing it to a bm, i.e. having to help it come out by pushing and using your "nose air" to do the same thing. Silly, I know, but I don't know how else to explain it to him. We practice blowing air out whe. He's not sniffly and he does the same thing, sucking it in,
Is this something that you just eventually 'get'? I can't take another middle of the night cry session over a runny nose and I don't want to have the snotty nose kid of the class either :-)
Re: How did you teach nose blowing?
The best thing I ever did was teach DS to blow his nose. Okay, and maybe potty training
I held his mouth closed and had him blow (not in a mean way, but just to show him). He does a great job now and has been so much healthier (getting the snot out is so important!!) GL... it's tricky!

I love these two beautiful children!
This. I always told them to hold his/her mouth closed and blow out the birthday candle with her/his nose.

Oh, some good techniques here, ladies!
OP, my DS (almost 4) can't do it either. It's so frustrating. But maybe these new tips will help
Another birthday candle analogy mom here.
I'd have them physically blow hard in my face with their mouths and then tell them to do it again but close their mouths (so they took a deep breath first and blow really hard).
They were highly motivated to learn when they realized that it was going to be the "booger sucker" (battery powered nose aspirator) or "water boarding" (DH's term, not mine, for saline nasal rinses) if they couldn't help with clearing their noses on their own.
