We went with some friends and their kids before we had kids ourselves. I think it depends on your kids and how they are with extreme animal encounters. We rented the van (you have the option of using theirs or your own - DEFINITELY rent theirs. Your car would never be the same). The animals all expect food, so you constantly have big animals coming RIGHT up to your windows and sticking their heads/tongues/whatever they can in the car with you. Emma would be FUH-REAKED if that happened right now. In a few years, she may love it though. We had a blast, but it was more up-close than I was expecting for sure.
