:( my kiddo has a nasty cough

DD has a nasty cough - the raspy kind that rattles around in her chest.  She had a little bit of a cough yesterday but today is noticeably worse.  Is there anything I can do for her?  Is there anything I can give her to ease the cough?

{FWIW: she had a low grade fever this morning and her mood is still fine.}

  • breathe in lots of steam. i don't know about medicine, but warm soups, teas and any other liquids that she's willing to drink should help soothe her throat.

  • We're dealing with a cough right now too. DD gagged herself while coughing on the way home from daycare yesterday and threw up. She has allergies and I think it's just the drainage in our case.

    I found a homeopathic cough suppressant (it's mostly just honey) at HEB that we've been trying in addition to her allergy meds. We're also doing vicks on the bottom of her feet with socks.

    Our pedi said to avoid dairy as much as possible because it creates more phlegm, which is hard for us because DD loves milk.

    GL and I hope she feels better soon.

  • Does she have a lot of drainage with it?  When Luke has one of those rattly drainage coughs our pedi tells us to use saline nose drops as much as we can and to push fluids so that the phlegm thins out.

    I also grabbed a box of lemon honey cough stuff made by the same company that makes Little Noses saline drops.  I haven't tried it yet, but I'm hoping it will help with Luke's next nasty cough.

  • Some honey usually helps DD. Will she drink tea? Maybe some warm tea with honey and lemon. Ditto pp on avoiding dairy. I hope she feels better soon--coughs suck.
    Dear Bump: You suck.

    Not really.  Her nose is pretty clear - no sneezing or runny nose at all the last several days.

    I'll make her some tea with honey and see if she'll drink it.

    Thanks, ladies!

  • Mine too. :(  At first I thought it was a cold, but he doesn't really have a runny nose either. Honey works here & there during the day, but he was coughing at night so I've been using that Vicks menthol vapor liquid stuff (approved for 2+) in the vaporizer at night & he's been doing better. Good luck and hope she feels better soon!
