Do they have those here? I don't mean lessons just supervised splashing with little babies (my lo is 4 months old) and their parents. Where I come from there are tons of those but I cannot seem to find any in Houston? TIA
Not sure if this is what you are referring to. But there is at least one mom on here who had her son take this class. If this is what you are interested in try paging Imfun on the Houston board.
Are you looking for "survival" type classes? If so, look into Glendy's Water babies (just google it). She starts on the "survival" type stuff then once they have that she moves onto the actually swimming stuff.
Sorry, I need to clarify: I'm NOT looking for survival type classes. Those we will do once he's the appropriate age. Now all I'm looking for is a fun event, where a whole bunch of other moms and little babies get in a pool together and get the baby used to water. A relaxed environment, just enjoying the baby and watching the baby enjoy the water.
We are going to try out Houston Swim Club @ Katy. They have various locations and start at 4 months old - starfish level. From what I can tell (haven't been yet) they have "lessons" available every day (mon - fri, sat morning), morning, afternoon and evening. Im not sure how it all works yet... I think we will maybe check them out this weekend though!
Please tell me about the place after you go. I saw their testimonial and they said something along the lines of being not playful but disciplined which scared me off a little bit...
I wanted to tell you about another place. It is called Sea Sports Swim and there are 3 locations, Katy, Woodlands and Cypress. It is a saline pool and baby classes start at 6 mo.
In response to my previous post. I am not trying to advertise my business. Although as i reread it it looks that way. I was trying to be helpfull to mommies looking for a service. I apologize really....Just a newly pregnant mom trying to interact on the boards! I will have is removed if yall wish I really feel bad......
Our kids go to Swim Jim on Wilcrest. They have Mommy/Daddy and baby classes. Their facility isn't the fanciest, but the classes are good. My kids love it.
OP: what you are looking for, I think the Y would be a good idea. We did that when DS was 6mo. We both liked it.
I wanted something different last year, but my job didn't really allow it. I really wanted Houston Swim Club (highly rec) but the locations from home aren't ideal. This year I plan on looking into private lessons, since my mom has a pool. I want him to have a respect for the water - but still enjoy it.
Following up on our visit.... I'll start a new thread too though....
We went last weekend to the Houston Swim Club for DS's first lesson. At just under 6 months he was the youngest there by far, but we wanted to get him in and used to the water early.(you can start at 4 months). He loves bath time anyway. The other kids in his class Im pretty sure were well over a year old, but every kids under 2 has to do the same class, they'll just move up faster probably, presuming they gain the skills faster....
Anyway it is quite structured. It's a half hour lesson, DH went in with him, I sat on the side of the pool. The water is around 95F, so warm. They do different activities many involving songs, mostly floating type activities, they have a mini slide that they go down, monkey walk along the side of the pool. They will get dunked, they won't like it probably but they need to get used to getting their faces wet. We thought it was good. It is quite structured, and has a point to it, but Id still say its fun.....
The changing facilities are the only downside really. Its more geared towards kids, it isn't really geared towards adults. And there aren't many showers or anything - I only saw one big one. As far as I saw there weren't any changing rooms as such, but there is a row of cubicles if that makes sense. Hence DH is probably going to be in the water with him most of the time!
WaitingforLucas I'll send you a PM though with so more info
