When can overnights start?

I'm due in February and SO and I just recently broke up. We are on okay terms and I want to make sure he'll get ample opportunities to see his daughter.
So when can LO spend nights away from me? I plan on breastfeeding but when she can be away from me I will pump. I've seen a range of answers from 3 months to 18 months. I know every baby is different but I'd like a more specific time frame.
I am by no means looking forward to this point. Until she can spend nights at his place, he'll stay over here with her in her room every once in a while. And I prefer that option over her spending nights away from me. But he would prefer to have her at his apartment, so I want to give him a timeframe as to when that can happen.
TIA

Re: When can overnights start?

  • Most judges don't award overnights until 18 months but some will do it earlier. The way I saw it was that ex is just as much a parent as I am so he started taking him every other weekend at 3 months old when we broke up. If I had still been breast feeding it would have been a little different though. It really just depends on what you're comfortable with.

  • If you WANT him to take her overnight, of course she can go overnight. Who is going to stop you?

  • I thought I read this already? If you are nursing it isn't the best idea to have her stay somewhere else at night because she will miss out on nursing and you probably won't get up to pump 2-4 times in the middle of the night like she would eat so it might effect your supply and/or you will get really engorged and possibly get a clogged duct. If you WANT her to stay with him she can whenever you are comfortable. Keep in mind a lot of men don't wake up to the cries of a baby like moms do. especially if they aren't used to it.
