Those with experience with Cervadil, a question.

If I don't go into labor on my own by Monday, I am back to the doctor for another NST and we will have to make a decision then about when to do an induction. My OB's typical protocol for induction is Cervadil the night before, and then you return to the hospital the following morning and your water is broken and hopefully nature takes over from there.

Does anyone have any experience with this particular protocol? I am so wanting a natural birth and didn't expect to be at this point overdue with no progress in four weeks, no contrax, no BH, nothing going on.

After TTC with IR PCOS:

Re: Those with experience with Cervadil, a question.

  • My doctor and I discussed inductions today for late next week. She said they'd have me come in the night before for Cervadil and then start Pitocen and break the water the next morning. (but you stay in the hospital the whole night). Then when she checked me I was 1-2 cm dilated and she said to just come in at 7am that morning to do the pit and water breaking (if needed) because the Cervadil would only be used if you hadn't started to dilate on your own first.

As much as I'm hoping to avoid being induced because I really disliked pitocen last time, I'm glad not to need an additional medication. Hopefully if you can begin to dilate even a little by then you won't need the Cervadil, too.

  • I had the same protocol for induction with my daughter.  I went to the hospital the night before and had the cervadil placed.  I was 2cm 80% effaced when I went into the hospital.  The cervadil did nothing but efface m to 90% and they broke my water the next morning and start pit about an hour after that.  My whole labor from the time my water was broken until I had her in my arms was 5.5 hours so it was a great experience. I was very anti induction but had a great experience.  My biggest wish this time is to go into labor naturally but I also am not afraid of an induction either.

  • I was told today that I will go in on the 24th and have the cervadil placed in the evening and then start the pitocin the next day - but I would stay in the hospital - I would not go home.  Best of luck to you.

  • My dr used cervidil. I went in on the 29th and they placed it at about 10 pm. My water broke on its on by 1 am. They still used a pit drip the next morning to keep things going. My experience was really good. Best of luck to you.

  • My induction is scheduled for Mon at midnight with cervadil as well.  I will stay over night in the hospital and they will give me a sleeping pill then to help me sleep.  Ten hours later, they'll take out the cervadil  and if I am sufficiently dilated, start me on pitocin.  I can get an epidural whenever I like.
