Preferably south, but I will go anywhere for an honest and inexpensive mechanic. My dad jacked up my oil pan plug and now it has to be drilled out of the car. Uggh. TIA
My mechanic is north, but I would drive across town to take my car to him if he ever moved south: Pond Springs Automotive.
One of the last times I had to get my car fixed was when my radiator exploded. Rusty's price was almost half what the dealership quoted me. Not that I was planning to take it to the dealership to get it fixed, I was just nervously calling around because I was worried it would be $$$$.
we always take our cars to koenig automotive (just east of koenig & lamar). george torres is the owner, and we've consistently gotten great service, much lower prices than the dealership and a job well done over the years. they're a small little shop, so you may need to drop off/pick up later when they're busy.
Kwik Kar at Wm. Cannon and Brodie. They're AWESOME. It's the first place I've ever found that makes me not feel like I'm getting taken advantage of. It's family owned and everyone there is awesome. The waiting room is super comfy, they have wi-fi, good mags, good coffee and they even have a dog park out back. They even have (had?) a young female mechanic that explained things to me in girl-speak (told me some kind of fluid was supposed to be the color of my eyeshadow). I can't recommend them enough.

i used to take my car there for oil changes until they drilled my oil pan screw back on funky and caused a crazy leak. then they "offered" to fix it for me for a few hundred. i've sold that car, but i haven't taken our other car there since.
too bad because i really liked them all the times before. never felt like they were trying to sell me on extras like jiffy lube would do.
If you go, get Tomcat to work on your car- he's great. No, really. And nobody will look at you funny for saying that. He does a lot of the work on ILs cars and did some work on DSS' car recently.
And introduce yourself to my FIL (who is not Tomcat, obvi) he's the super nicest guy I've every met.
