Pre-School and Daycare

I'm sorry, I'm obsessing. Another stroller at Disney question.

OK so I think I've decided I definitely need to have a stroller. Now some people are telling me I should just rent one there.

What has been your experience with the rental strollers?

I found a City Mini on Craigslist for $80, so if it's $20 per day to rent or something, I feel like I might as well just buy this one.

Also someone said the rental strollers don't recline? I'm thinking that one of the main benefits to having a stroller would be for DS to sleep if needed. He doesn't normally nap, but after a couple long days he may want to crash in the stroller for a while. So if they don't, then I don't think I'll go the rental route.

  • Ha!  I am obsessing too.  My mom is going to get sick of me calling her and asking her opinion.

Someone in the thread I posted mentioned that their are companies out there that will rent strollers, deliver them and pick up at your resort.  I was looking at double and the city elite double was about $70 for 5-7 days.  Singles were less and it depends on how long you need it for too.  Might be a good option since it is less hassle, nicer strollers and not too expensive.

I think we have decided to bring our double so we can use it to hold stuff while in the airport. We will gate check it and check our car seats with our luggage so we don't have to haul those through the airport.  Baby items are usually free to check so you can check with your airline if you are flying.

  • I am planning on bringing my double Maclaren (what I brought last time) or two singles.

    Here is Orlando Stroller rental:

[link]https://www.orlandostrollerrentals.com/[link]  These are real strollers for rent (not the prefab disneyworld ones and they will drop them off and pick them up at your disney resort).

I agree there are a sea of disneyworld rentals.  Bring something that will help yours stand out if you decide to go with one.  I didn't have this problem with my stroller.

  • The big question is, are you going to want a stroller outside of the parks?  You pick the DW rented stroller up at the gate (sometimes waiting in line) and drop it back off at the gate.  If you are staying on property and using buses, etc, you may want to have a stroller while waiting in line for that.  Also, from what I recall, the DW rented strollers are uncomfortable looking with very little storage.  I know when we rented one for my stepdaughter when she was 4, we ended up getting a double several days so she stood a chance at having space to get comfy for a nap.

  • Her is the disney page on stroller rentals.

IMO its easier to have your own, esp. if you have a park hopper.  If you go to disney on a peak attendance day and switch parks, there may not be a stoller at the new park you've moved to, esp. at midday.  You are not allowed to take the stroller out of the park you picked it up in.  For me, it's easier to carry your day bag of stuff in your own stroller & I agree with pp about locating your stroller in the "parking" areas can be a pain.  We decorate it with ribbon and a luggage tag to make it easy to ID.

  • You can rent strollers at any of the Disney parks.  They are not comfortable; it's a basic means of transportation.  More like a solid, plastic beach chair on wheels with a mesh bag attached to the back.  It sits really low to the ground so if you have a smaller child, say, younger than 2, I wouldn't advise renting them from there.  It'd be better to bring your own.  It worked for my daughter because she's more of a "rough and tumble" kinda gal who likes to see everything.  Plus, she never napped while we were there so the stroller was specifically for when she was tired of walking or we became tired from holding her.  (She was 2 1/2 at the time.)

The new rentals do not recline- they are a hard plastic, too- not super comfy looking. Probably fine for an older child, and I do see kids managing to nap in them (but, seriously- I think most kids would nap hanging upside down by their ankles after a full Disney day- LOL). They do have nice sun shades, and they look easy enough to scoot around- but, yes, they are also expensive. I haven't priced them in years, but, I know they were at least $15 a day for a single when my 4.5yo son was an infant.

Here's a link to a blog post with pics of them.

We always bring our own stroller when we go- but, we only go for half days, sometimes just 3 hours, so our son hasn't used a stroller there in a few years. He's usually ready to be carried by the time we're making the walk to the car, though- so, an all day type of trip would absolutely require one for him.

If you're going during a busy time of year, you will be presented with a sea of these everywhere you go- the stroller parking areas are ridiculous- I don't know how anyone finds their own rental. It makes ours easy to spot, though. :)

Make sure the mini comes with a sun shade, or get one for it. They are pretty nice as far as sun shades go, definitely necessary for most days here.

Yes, these are more like plastic carts than strollers.  We always take our own stroller.  We fly there so I just leave the neon tag from the airport hanging from our handle.  It's very easy to stop in the stroller parking areas.

  • Definitely bring your own stroller or buy that city mini.  We brought our City Mini double and I was SO glad we did!  Not only are non-Disney strollers more comfy, but it is great to have your own stroller for storage.  The rentals don't really have any storage.  Plus, if you are the kind of person that is careful about picking just the right stroller to buy, you probably would be unhappy with a rental.

Is there any reason you don't want to bring your own and gate-check it?  That's what we did.  It helped a lot just in navigating the airport.  And if one or both of the kids wanted to walk, we could put bags in the stroller.

And ditto to the PPs posts about bringing a bright colored luggage tag.  Makes it MUCH easier to identify your stroller amongst a sea of similar looking strollers.  And, if you are planning to go at night sometimes, buy some of those cheapy glow bracelets from the dollar store and put on your stroller.  HUGE huge help finding your stroller in the dark with those on it!   Plus the kids liked to wear the glow bracelets too:)
