IVF ladies -- E2 levels at trigger?

Hi everyone,

I really need to step away from Dr. Google but I can't help myself.  My e2 levels only rose from 2,100 on Tuesday to 2,500 on Wednesday... which doesn't seem like much given that I have 25-30 follies.  (I've read that it's supposed to be 200 per mature follie... does that sound about right?)  The doc backed me way off on the follistim -- I'm only taking 100 IU now -- so maybe that's why it's not rising as fast.

So my main question is: what were your E2 levels at trigger?  And how many mature eggs were retrieved?

Thanks!

Severe MFI. Me: supposedly all clear but eggs showed vacuoles.

IVF #1 January 2012, ER Jan 14th: 34R, 27M, 23F. Day 3: 18 embies still strong. Day 5: zero "good," one "fair," the rest "poor." Transferred 3. None made it to blast or to freeze. Jan 28: BFN.

Lucky IVF #2: Transferred two beautiful day three embies on St. Patrick's Day. BFP on HPT 7dp3dt. Beta 1 (14dpER)=106; Beta 2 (16dpER)=140; Beta 3 (19dpER)=264! First u/s 4.17.

Re: IVF ladies -- E2 levels at trigger?

  • I think my E2 at trigger for my antagonist cycle was around 2000+ (over 2000, but under 3000).  For my agonist cycle, it was 3000+ at trigger, and went over 5000 the day after trigger (because the eggs were maturing).  I think the number pre-trigger has nothing to do with how many mature eggs you're going to get.

Also, they were counting >20 follies just on my left ovary for both cycles, but wound up retrieving 14 eggs/12 mature during the antagonist cycle and 15 eggs/14 mature during the agonist cycle.  The number of follies does not always = the number of eggs you will have retrieved.

Good luck!!  Are you triggering tonight??  So excited to see how things go for you over the next week! Smile

  • My e2 at trigger was 3950.  They were counting 18 and at retrieval 13 were retrieved and 12 were mature.

If they reduced your follistim, that is probably why your levels are coasting now.  For me, a tiny reduction in stims will actually reduce my e2, not just slow it down.  Every.single.time.

    Good Luck!

Thanks for the info!  Sounds like you were right about where I was pre-trigger.  It will be interesting to see how many eggs are hiding out in those follies.

I'll find out at my monitoring appointment at noon whether I'll be triggering tonight or tomorrow.  I'm hoping my follies have grown well overnight and I'll be able to trigger tonight!  I'm definitely feeling ready to be done with this part and move on to trigger/ER.

  • Hi. My E2 level was 3,568 the day I triggered and was 6,389 the next day. I had my retrieval yesterday.I was on 100 IU a day of follistim.
  • I was ~1900 for IVF#1 = 11 eggs/10 mature

    I was ~2600 for IVF#2 = 14 eggs/12 mature

You are doing great - and you're almost there!  Good luck!

  • I can't give you advice on the numbers because mine are always so much lower being a poor responder. I think mine was around 700 when I triggered and I wound up with 3 eggs (of which 2 matured overnight). They never know what numbers will reflect until they get those little ones out. They can also mature late too!

I am keeping my fingers crossed that your numbers continue to grow and that those little eggies are all mature upon retrieval!

    Take care!

  • Yeah I was actually around 700 for my first ER (4 follies, 3 eggs, 2 mature).

I was even less (RE mumbled something about 400!!) for this 2nd ER, and there were 3 retrieved, 2 mature.

Interesting (to me) he thought my E2 dropped near the end as the smaller follies dropped off, and stopped producing estrogen.

In any case, our situations are way different and to me it sounds like you're doing amazing.  I am so excited for you!!!!  :)

  • Mine was 3000 at trigger. We got 14 eggs, 12 of which were mature. But, the day before trigger, my level was 1900. So, you may have a big jump in the end. Good luck!

ETA: oh, I forgot. Are you doing an antagonist too? That can make your e2 levels plateau or even drop. So, it's possible your level is not the best indicator of maturity.

That's super helpful -- I hadn't realized that antagonist is a special case but after Googling, it looks like you're 100% right.  Good to know!  And best of luck with your upcoming cycle.

  • I knew this spreadsheet I started with IVF would come in handy! Smile

Day before trigger: 6 follies >20 mm, 6 follies 15-20 mm, and a bunch 10-15 mm; E2 was 3100, up from 1580 two days prior.

Day after trigger: E2 was 4000.

We ended up with 14 eggs, 12 mature, 11 fertilized with ICSI and 6 made it to day 5 blasts. I was on Gonal-F 300 IU with 75 IU Luveris the entire time.

  • Hi Farmerlynda! Been wondering how you've been doing! Excited to hear your ER update!! Yes, step away from Dr. Google! :-)))

My E2 levels were close to 6,000 (way too high - why I got cancelled) the morning of trigger for 26 matured eggs.....mind you 11 were fully mature at ER, 14 were intermediate (almost mature) at ER & 1 immature at ER.  So by Day 1 we got the 26 matured (basically 15 matured in lab between ER day & Day 1). (This was of 47 follies, and 30 eggs total retrieved). Sorry, if that was confusing! I am reading from my little IVF notebook that I kept!

I don't know much about E2 levels but my clinic likes to see E2 levels below 3,000 they told me.

Look forward to your update!!! Good luck!!!

  • My E2 was 4,428 we did 1/2 dose of novarel that night and had 17 eggs - 16 mature and 16 fertilized. HOWEVER I did have minor OHSS and did not have a successful IVF even though we transferred 2 what the RE called "perfect embryos". I spoke to my other RE at a different clinic and he told me that the high E2 can contribute to implantation failure. I am not sure how but it gives me more hope for our Spring 2012 FET :)

  • My last e2 before retrieval was between 6,000-7,000.  I've honestly forgotten if that was the day of trigger or the day after.  I had 33 mature eggs.

  • My E2 was 1800 on the day of the trigger.  They retrieved 18 eggs, 15 were mature, 9 fertilized and grew into 2- cell embryos.  I find out tomorrow if they are going to do a 3 day or 5 day transfer.
