Carpal Tunnel = Excruciating pain, anyone else?

Today, for the first time ever I experienced the excruciating carpal tunnel pain.  I'm assuming it's CP since the pain started at my wrist and radiated down to my fingers and up my forearm. (I've never had carpal tunnel.)  It's so bad I'm crying at time and want to scream.

Anyone else experience this horrible pain? Did anything alleviate the pain? Tylenol isn't working, BenGay worked a teeny bit.  Man, if I can't tolerate carpal tunnel pain, how am I gonna handle labor pains :(

  • i'm having lots of numbness and discomfort, but not the pain that you describe.  my doc said to call if it got worse and began interfering w/ daily activities and that there were 'things they could do'.  no idea what those 'things' are, but make some calls and see if you can get some relief!  good luck to you!

  • I feel mine in my upper arm and shoulder. I miss Advil. You need something to ease the inflammation. Tylenol won't do it, and NSAIDs aren't safe. You can try making sure your wrist is supported when you're at work. And, heating pads during the day.  For me, after about 2 weeks, I'm just dealing with it.
  • During my yoga class yesterday my wrists were killing me I could barely support myself! I just found out it was common in pregnancy. The only advice I got was heating pads or wrapping your wrists with a towel or cloth...bad enough trying to work out with a big stomach then to add the carpel tunnel on top...not so easy! Good luck hope you get relief!

  • I have it. I had a mild case before I became pregnant and now its all amped up. My doctor gave me braces to sleep in which was really difficult at first because I would toss them across the room in my sleep. I have since managed to keep them on. It helps. When its bothering me during the day, I used to take ibuprofen but thats a big no no on the preggers list so I stick with Tylenol and Salonpas. Salonpas help a lot. They are pretty much just mentholated patches but they take the swelling out which helps reduce the pain.

Hope this helps! I know your pain!

  • I deal with this every day I do know exactly of the pain you speak of.  Try wrist braces at least it will help you get some sleep.  It does get to the point that you almost want to cry but it passes :)  hugZZZZZ

  • There have been several posts about this - here and on 2nd Tri board - and everyone concurs (myself included) that the wrist braces are the way to go.  Mine clear up nearly 100% when I wear the braces at night.  I have also read that massage, acupuncture, ice and yoga help (oddly enough since the PP said that aggravated it!).  On one of the previous posts about this someone also said that their dr had them on a low sodium diet - which makes sense since it's inflammation/water retention related.  Good luck!

  • I have CP and it is a tingly feeling. After typing all day, paperwork, driving or even sleeping I get the feeling like my hand has fallen asleep and I have to shake it to make it go away. At night the pain is so intense b/c it is from my fingers to my elbow b/c the CP at night is worse. You can get a brace at your pharmacy and wear it at night and if it is a problem at work then wear it then too, but I find wearing it at night is enough for me. Now I just need to remember to wear it. LOL
