S/O birthdays....

I'm a little worried about birthday parties in the future... K's cousin's birthday is the day before hers.... So I'm worried birthday parties are going to become a "can we do a joint party" kinda thing.... And I really don't want to do that, but at the same time, I don't want anyone to have to choose between the two. And of course her cousin is a boy, so it might be hard to agree on themes in the future anyway...

I'm not really worried about this birthday since it falls on a Monday I've decided to do something on the following Saturday instead. However, in the future, I just have this feeling we'll be trying to plan birthday parties for the same day... And I think part of me dreads the joint birthday because I know that means DH and I would end up paying for the entire thing.....

Anyone else have LO's whose birthday is close to another relatives? How are you planning on handling that?

Not the exact same, but our niece is a few weeks older, so after the 1st parties I anticipate DHs family "suggesting" we do joint parties so they don't have to go to so many June events. I wouldn't mind that when they're a little older, but when they're young I want to do my own. Plus, same thing - boy and girl - they'll want different themes.

The main thing I'm concerned about is working his birthday around Father's Day. I love that he was born on Father's Day, but that just means that Father's Day weekend will be ideal for birthday parties. Sometimes we can do the following weekend, but DHs family is so set in their traditions that we can't have it on Father's Day, and, like you, I wouldn't want to plan when there is already something else that weekend.

Yeah... I don't think I'd mind so much when she's older... But for the first few years... I don't want to share... Call me selfish, but I want my kiddo's first birthdays to be special for her and only her!

I know exactly how you feel. LO was born 5 days before my sister had her daughter (my niece). I have a feeling it's going to be "let's have a joint party" thing too. I don't know what I'm going to do to be honest, I might just give in to that....

I didn't have a huge first birthday for DS1, he had three separate small birthdays in different cities so relatives can be there. plus his birthday is 10 days before Christmas so it's always a hectic time of year.

I might have a joint party with my sister but then also have a small party for DS2 separately. I don't know...

J and his cousin are a week apart and i' possitive SIL will not want a joint party which is just fine with me. plus J's Bday is first so i get dibs. (or at least i better!) i'm not doing anything huge. just a picnic at the house with family and godparents.
