Re: first birthday theme conundrum

  • I haven't thought of a theme yet. Not even there but I agree with you. I think I will probably save the themes for when LO is 2 or 3. Old enough to know what she likes.

  • I haven't. But I think I just did like this second. Since we will most likely be still at DH's parents house, who live on a farm with cows - maybe a cow theme?? I want to save most themes but we can repeat farmer right? That's general enough. Ugh the whole birthday thing bothers me since we most likely won't have our own home and will have to throw a party at someone else's house.

  • Nah, I want to use all my good ideas before he's old enough to have an opinion and choose his own theme!  Wink
  • I figure this theme is cute but it's one that I'LL probably want to remember more than he would, which is why I like it for the first bday.  For 2+ he'll have more interests, etc. so he can pick his own theme.

ETA: I've been planning to plan a Very Hungry Caterpillar party.

  • I agree with PP! I'm going to organize and design his parties exactly how I want to as long as I can. I bet I have about 2 birthdays before he wants to have it be 'his' theme.

I'm going to keep his party really whimsy, babyish and sweet. Paper cranes hanging in the trees, handmade newspaper hats, flags with his name, and little stuff like that. I'm going to save the batman paper plates and plastic table cloths until he's older. :)

i love this idea, but SIL used it for my nephew's nursery (though she crapped out and did all of his stories)

i've also seen alot of cute cupcakes in this theme.

i almost want to do a really silly theme like survivor since he survived his first year...

  • Our "theme" is more for me and DH and will reflect what she means to us. No character theme as i've been saying. When she's old enough to show a preference then we might do a character theme party.

  • I plan on doing what I want for him now as a lot of PP said because one day he will want to choose.  Like this year is Dr. Seuss, and then next year (oh yes I have already planned) it will be "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" Themed!

I am going to have so much fun with this one this year.  I already have the cake and cupcakes lined up (a lady I used to work with is a baker) and the location lined up.  I loved doing our wedding and making a lot for it, I am so looking forward to it for DS birthday parties!
