DS hasn't pooped in a week

I am running out of ideas on how to get him to go.  We've been doing Miralax for the last four days and I've given him three suppositories.  He is holding it in and told me his poop is too big to come out.  When I've given the suppositories, he has kept them in, but nothing sizeable comes out.  He got some out that was the size of a plum last night.

I called my Pedi, but she's out.  The operator refused to put me through to a phone nurse and told me it I were really that concerned, I'd take him to urgent care.  DS isn't lethargic and his stomach isn't distended, so I'm not too worried.  I just don't want this to get worse.  The only thing I can think of is a kid's Fleet enema.  Any other suggestions?

Re: DS hasn't pooped in a week

  • Is he potty trained?  DD is, but she has a habit of going in a pull up at bedtime.  I think it has something to do with having a warm bath and relaxing in bed.  I'm sorry, I wish I was more help.
  • We are in the process of potty training.  He has been peeing on the potty, but not pooping.  I went against all advice and even offered him a diaper to poop in a couple of times.  He seems more receptive to that, but still hasn't gone.  Thanks for the advice!

  • When DS was trying the witholding thing, we gave him the full 17 gram dose of Miralax and a warm bath and that often helped.

One enema was all it took to make him stop that habit. After that, the mere threat of another made him run to the bathroom. LOL
