Twin Strollers? Side by side?

What is better? What is easier to maneuver? Thanks for your help!

Re: Twin Strollers? Side by side?

  • i like choices.

i like a tandem for shopping idoors - easier to get around racks, etc... the BJC Select is the best tandem, IMO (i have owned many strollers and love this one the most).

a SBS is great for long walks, trips to the zoo, disney, etc. But they suck indoors b/c most things are not easy to get around... sure you can get in doors- but not between racks, chairs at the doc's office, etc.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.

  • We chose a side by side the bumbleride. No babies yet but it steered so easily and fit easily around the store.

  • I prefer the side by sides....we have a bumbleride too and I love it.  Sure it is too big for a few places, but most of those places I don't take the babies.  Or DH and I both use carriers and for-go the stroller all together.  SBS just seem to steer better and be more comfy for the kids.

  • I have 3 strollers....I originally bought a front to back stroller (chicco), I hate it! its like trying to drive a bus from the rear! I stopped using it and packed up my double jog stroller which stunk! So......I found a side by side double stroller(maclaren) that folded up like an umbrella stroller which I totally love! it was a little pricey for a light weight but totally worth it!

  • I have 3 right now. We started with the DSNG when we had the infant seats. Now we have a BJCS for everyday use, a BOB Duallie for jogging, the zoo, and other outdoorsy stuff, and a single umbrella stroller for those times when we're only taking one out or if I am wearing one (only one of my kids handles being worn very much). My girls have separate medical issues that have sometimes required separate appointments and usually I don't want to go through the hassle of taking a bigger stroller. The umbrella does come in handy sometimes.

  • I agree with Goldie that it's great to have one of each if you can afford it. Each type is better in different situations.

We had a Double SNap n Go the first 6 months and it was great.
After that, we had a City Mini double (SBS) and a Graco Duoglider (tandem). 95% of the time I chose the City Mini but it was nice to have both options. Really a matter of personal preference and what types of places you tend to go.

  • We too had a DSNG for when they were in infant seats.  I liked the convienence of just loading them on it w/ their carseats, but didn't like that it was so long to steer.

We too have a Bumbleride, which I love!  It drives great, had great storage, reclines all the way for when infants and napping, but does weigh more and is bulky.  We have a van, so the storage of it is no biggie for us.

We also have a hand-me-down Peg Perego Aria, which I HATE.  I totally hate the way it buckles (the back comes unloose all the time making it unsecure IMO).  It is very light and convenient for backup (tires have popped a couple of times on the bumbleride, but only bc DH inflated it too much w/out measuring it properly), but I'm so used to the steering of the bigger stroller.

  • we have a few, tandem and side by side.  The one I use for mosting outings to the store is the Maclaren Twin Triumph.  It's light, easy to fold up and fits nicely in the car.  Longer trips (like to the zoo, etc) I would probably bring a little more roomier of a stroller.

    GL .. hope this helps.

Like prior poster said.. the Maclaren Twin Triumph is a bit on the pricier side, but it's so worth it.  Heck.. all the nice strollers are pretty pricey nowadays.

We received a Maclaren for the babyshower, but returned it bc I didn't feel it offered the support I wanted for the babies.  Maybe I took it out too early (boys were about 8 mo) but didn't like it.  It didn't really recline so for a bigger outing, what happens with nap time?  Instead of having 2 strollers (small outings and big outings), IMO the bumbleride was worth the investment.  But everyone has different needs and lifestyles.  :)
