Our spare bedroom, which will become the nursery, is not wired for a ceiling light. The switch (which is very inconveniently located on the OUTSIDE of the room, what gives?) operates an outlet, into which we have plugged a standing lamp that we bought at Target. The light supply is really poor as a result. I'm wondering if we should pay the money to wire the ceiling for a light (and perhaps also move the lightswitch!).
My main concerns with the standing lamp are a) having to place furniture over the outlet so the plug isn't exposed, b) the cord running around the baseboard when baby is mobile and wants to bite things, and c) baby trying to stand up with assistance from the floor lamp and knocking it over on him/herself.
Admittedly, though, I just hate the floor lamp and the poor light it emits, so I may be overthinking this. Is anyone else worried about this sort of thing?
Re: Floor lamp as only light source in nursery?
EDD 1/31/11 m/c 6/21/11 miss you little circus peanut.
We have only a floor lamp in DD's room and it works fine. She has a medium sized window that lets light in during the day. We hardly use her nursery unless she is sleeping. We spend 99% of her awake time outside of the nursery. A floor lamp is enough if you ask me!
I thought it might be an issue as she got older but honestly she hardly messes with it. And my DD gets into EVERYTHING!
