Baby Names

Avalina

I was researching some genealogy and found the name Avalina. She was born in 1812 and died in 1907... 95 years old!!

Wdyt of the name, and how would you pronounce it?

I pronounce it Ah-vuh-leena ... althought I am not sure that's correct.

Re: Avalina

  • I'd say Ay-vuh-leena.  It's pretty, but I'm just so tired of Ava.  My first thought was that you wanted Ava but tried to make it youneek.

  • I love it! Maybe instead of using the nn Ava, you can call her Lina/Lena.

  • I was thinking the same thing. I have always liked the name Lena.

  • I guess you could pronounce it any way you wish, but the only Avalina I know is "ava-leen-a". They call her Ava.

  • Sorry, all I see/hear is javelina, a type of wild boar found in the Southwest. Not a fan.

  • I would pronounce it just like you did. The town in italy my family is from is avellino....pronounced ah veh leeeeno
  • I would say ay-vuh-LEE-nuh. I think it would make a great middle name since it has family significance, but as a first name it feels forced.

  • In Europe and South America, this name is pronounced Aaahh-vah-leen-ah not A-vuh-lee-nuh. It's a beautiful first name and may only seemed forced in the States. I'd be prepared to correct people here.
  • Like Javelina? That's all I can think of, and I would pronounce it the same way, just without the first consonant sound. I prefer Ava, but the popularity of it makes it unappealing.
