Boston ladies

If you had 3-4 hours to kill after an appointment at Children's with your almost 5 year old, where would you go?  I'd love an idea that was age appropriate for him, but too old for DD (almost 3) because I'll feel guilty if I take him somewhere that she would have enjoyed too, and she won't be with us.Big Smile (Is that a crazy thing to feel guilty about?)

thanks for any ideas.

Re: Boston ladies

  • Well, I wouldn't feel guilty about taking one of my kids on a special outing without the other one (so I think you could do something they'd both like, but that's your call, obviously :), but there are tons of things you could do with 3-4 hours in Boston.  You could get on the Green Line Subway and get just about anywhere pretty quickly.  The MFA is close to Childrens and my kids like to go there, but I realize not every kid is into that.  Same with the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum--close, but not super kid-ish.

I'd probably either go to the Frog Pond to go ice skating, or go to the Aquarium and then walk around Fanueil Hall (my kids LOVE the food court in Quincy Market!).

  • Hmmm.....I am having trouble thinking of something that the 3 year old wouldn't enjoy to some extent as well. I am assuming this is soon? (so, no warm weather activities?) DS is in love with going on the Duck Tours for some reason - his dad takes him every year while I do my breast cancer walk weekend, but that doesn't start up again until the spring. There are the usual standbys of the Museum of Science (which is the best of the options for older kids IMO), The Childrens Museum, and the Aquarium. However just getting from Longwood Medical to this places and back (either T or car) will take up a decent chunk of time. There is the Puppet Showplace Theatre in Brookline Village (close to Longwood) which could be fun for a short outing depending on what show they are doing. The Museum of Fine Arts is close, too, so that could be a good option.

  • I was going to suggest the MFA because its close to Children's, but I've never been with kids so I don't know...
  • Thanks for the ideas.  I think DS would love the MFA.  I might do that.

And, Devons, thanks for the Puppet Showplace idea.  That would have been great, but unfortunately they don't have any shows on Fridays and the appointment is on Friday the 20th.  But, we'll definitley have to check out a show some other time.  Have you seen anything there?

  • We have...it is a tiny theatre but can be really fun depending on the show. Some are very adult, and some can be a bit darker than others, so it is always good to check the recommended ages for each show :) It is directly across from the Brookline Villag T stop on the D Line, so really easy to get there, as well.
