When Did You Start Using Your Beco?

I started using the Beco occasionally with DS a little before he was 2 months old.  Lately, he hasn't been able to nap unless we walk him in the Beco.  My concern is that he has been spending a lot of time in the Beco and I started reading articles that talk about being careful not to splay your baby's legs too early.

When did you start using your Beco? (or Ergo, since they are very similar)  How long do you carry your baby stay in it on average?

Re: When Did You Start Using Your Beco?

  • I started using our Beco Butterfly a few weeks ago at 3.5 months and almost 15 pounds. He stays in it up to an hour now, but I'm mostly using it when doing activities that require him to be on his back (like laundry, vacuuming, cooking, picking up the house--anything that requires bending over).

I have been using the Moby since birth and still prefer that right now unless I need him on his back. He's in the Moby up to 3 hours at a time. We use it at home, during my folk choir rehearsals, and out shopping.

I do know that you're supposed to lift the knees once they're in the Beco so they end up more in a seated position. Are you doing that?

  • Thanks for the reply!  I probably should have clarified that I have the Beco Gemini (not Butterfly), and I know they are a little different.  With the Butterfly, I think you do have the option to lift the knees, but I don't think you could do that with the Gemini.
  • You can for sure keep lo legs tucked up, like a frog, with Gemini. I have been using it from the start in that way.

This! We've been using it since he was about 6lbs, we used a blanket then to help keep him in position (the carrier company says 7lbs and up). I wear him legs out b/c he's too long for my torso now, but DH still wears him legs in.
