What do you use to date bottles?

Something that can get wet.  I tried some removable labels that worked ok, but made a mess when they got wet.  Obviously I don't need something that will survive the dishwasher, but I do need them to survive a bottle warmer and getting wiped dry.

Currently I'm using blue painter's tape, but some of you mentioned some preprinted ones you can buy in the post below.  The set I saw weren't made for getting wet though.  Any suggestions?

Re: What do you use to date bottles?

  • namebubbles.com makes labels that can go through the dishwasher. In fact, my labels have held up better than the logos on the bottles.

ETA: Sorry, I thought you meant name labels. Could you use permanent marker? Then, when you want to change the date, just wipe the marker off with rubbing alcohol.

  • I use these that come with a wax type pencil for writing the date. https://www.oliverslabels.com/products/product.aspx?ProductID=12 The pencil writing does tend to smudge once it gets wet (like when they are heating it in the crockpot) but at that point they already know the date and that it is breastmilk and his name is part of the permanent label so there is no confusion. The label itself has held up great to washing, never tried it in a bottle warmer but I would assume the crockpot they use at daycare would be similar enough. They don't show any wear yet which is more than I can say for the bottle itself. I had trouble wiping them off with a regular towel but I use a dishrag with a little more texture and it wipes off easily.

  • can you put the label on the lid so it's removed before heating?

I write mine with dry erase markers bc the Tommee Tippee bottles are designed where the cap covers the nipple ring, which is nice and flat. I just write it there and then put the cap on to protect it. It wipes off, but not until it's used so my daycare is ok with it.

  • The name is on there with a Whoozems label (you can get them on amazon).  For the date, I use a grease pen on the bottle lid.  It stays on well enough that you can't accidentally wipe it off (but you don't have to scrub or peel anything off every day).

  • I just use blue painters tape on the cap of the bottle.  I write the numeric date (so if it was pumped on the 10th, 10, etc) with a sharpie and it fits fine.  I imagine since it's on the cap it wouldn't matter in a bottle warmer.   We just peel the tape off & toss it when we remove the cap to warm up a bottle.
