HI ladies! We are expecting DC#2 in June and DH has agreed to cd
I started building our stash around Black Friday and I think I am
doing pretty well. I need feedback on my overall stash and I also need
to know what I need to add for the newborn stage.
My DS was born at 34 weeks so he was 5lbs 11oz. I will be on
progesterone shots this time to hopefully avoid that this time around.
So, I could have anywhere from a 5.75 lb (early) to a 9 lb (full term)
baby. That's where I get overwhelmed.
So here's what I have so far:
15 BG 4.0 OS with 10 newborn and 10 regular inserts (8-35 lbs)
10 Econobums OS covers and 11 prefolds (8-35 lbs)
2 Baby Beehinds OS Bamboo Fitteds (8-35 lbs)
9 BG Size Small Fitteds (8-16 lbs)
3 Thirsties Size Small Duo Wraps (8-16 lbs)
9 Kushies Diaper Liners/doublers (?)
1 GroVia NB AIO (5-13 lbs)
7 flannel fitteds I bought from another mom...look homemade and nb size but might be a little big around chicken legs :-)
3 nb flannel/cotton Liners/doublers
On their way in fluffy mail:
3 Blueberry Mini Coveralls
2 Rumparooz Lil Joey Covers
I am so overwhelmed at this moment Thanks for your advice! (Can't wait to be able to start contributing once I am actually cding!)
DS was born at 5lb 15oz (basically 6lbs at take-home) and we started CD'ing at 1 week old. He fit well in KissaLuvs fitteds/Thirsties XS fitteds. He didn't fit in any of the "OS" dipers until he was about 1 month, because he had little chicken legs. The Duo Wraps are nice, but I got a better fit with the XS covers- we bought 2 and it was perfect until he was almost 2 or 3 months, then we used just the Duo Wraps.
Once he started sleeping through the night, we used the BG 3.0 (all they had back then) at night and that worked well. I might suggest keeping the BG's for night-time use, seeing as they tend to wear out quicker (aplix does at least) also they are 100% waterproof, and trying to use fitteds or another type of pocket diaper would leak. We have had luck using wool at night, but DH doesn't like playing with Wool.
From first glance, it looks like you may be lacking enough to diaper a newborn. The general consensus is that a newborn will not fit in OS right away. You may want to make sure you have enough newborn sized diapers or PFs with covers to be able to change their diaper every 2 hours.
Then again, I may not have read your list properly.

No, you read it right. That's mostly what I was hoping you'd all tell me. I am kind of lost as to what will really fit a nb.
I haven't started yet, but I got the advice from others here that newborn sized prefolds and covers is a great way to start. I personally like the idea of getting to use the prefolds as an extra set of inserts even after LO outgrows them as diapers by themselves. I got 2 dozen osocozy prefolds and 6 real nappies newborn covers as well as a couple of snappis. If you don't like the idea of prefolds, there are newborn sized pockets and all-in-ones out there too. I don't have any specific brand recommendations for those.
